For the 2027 G1 MOE-ITE Retail Operations syllabus, use K132. To handle a retail customer query, clarify the customer’s need, use accurate product information and explain the relevant benefit or limitation. A confident answer is only helpful when it is supported. Did you know that repeating every feature can still miss the customer’s question? Begin with the intended use and distinguish known facts from information that must be checked.
Practise with a fictional product card and one customer question. Ask what the customer is trying to do, select the information that answers it and state any uncertainty. A useful response can include checking a missing detail; it does not need to pretend that every specification is already known.

G1 Retail Operations K132 leads to Joint MOE-ITE Applied Subject Certification, not the Singapore-Cambridge SEC award. It applies to approved schools. The syllabus also states that it cannot be offered together with G1 Elements of Business Skills because of significant overlap. Confirm registration with the school.

If an answer is technically accurate but unhelpful, ask whether it addresses the customer’s use. If it promises a benefit absent from the product information, remove or qualify the claim. If the customer’s request is ambiguous, clarify it before recommending an item. Listening and product knowledge need to work together.
Choose one task that felt manageable and one that needs help. Discuss the difference using the student’s actual work. Ask the teacher to clarify an uncertain requirement before treating it as a learning weakness.
Try this original fictional product card: a bag has two zipped compartments, a padded shoulder strap and stated dimensions. A customer asks whether it will fit a laptop and keep it dry in heavy rain. The card gives no water-resistance information or internal compartment dimensions. What can the sales associate responsibly say?
Explain the listed features without treating them as proof of laptop fit or rain protection. Ask about the laptop’s dimensions and check the relevant internal measurements. State that protection in heavy rain cannot be confirmed from the card. A padded strap does not establish waterproofing, and the bag’s external dimensions do not by themselves guarantee a suitable compartment.
Use short role-plays in which the customer changes one requirement. Practise clarification, relevant explanation and an honest next step. Work only with fictional or permitted product information; do not invent warranty terms, discounts or performance claims. Keep practice scripts separate from any assessed preparation.
After the role-play, check whether the customer’s original question was answered and whether the next action is clear. Ask a partner to identify an unsupported claim or a missed need. Let the student formulate the actual response, while teacher feedback guides the next communication or product-knowledge practice.
The Secondary 1 Mathematics learning guide offers a principle useful across subjects: identify the foundation, practise in a sensible sequence and use corrections to choose the next step. Apply that habit here through a task the student can explain and revisit.
