Singapore’s 2027 MOE primary-school year starts on 4 January 2027 for Primary 1 and 5 January 2027 for Primary 2 to Primary 6. The final ordinary school term ends on 19 November 2027. Parents can use the calendar to plan student care, leave, transport and a realistic family routine—not just count the weeks until the next examination.
There are four school terms, three between-term or mid-year vacation periods and the year-end break. Some days also close schools without being part of a term vacation. School-based student care and private holiday programmes do not necessarily share identical opening arrangements. Verify both the MOE calendar and your child’s individual school and care-provider notices.

When does primary school start in January 2027?
Singapore’s MOE school year begins on Monday, 4 January 2027. That does not mean every primary pupil has the same first reporting day. Primary 1 pupils report on Monday, 4 January 2027; Primary 2 to Primary 6 pupils begin on Tuesday, 5 January 2027. This difference is important when arranging leave, school buses, student care and siblings’ routines.
For a family whose younger child is entering P1 and older child is returning to P4, 4 January cannot be planned as one ordinary school morning for both. Confirm the younger child’s school orientation and reporting time, identify the older child’s first reporting day and ask whether the centre’s after-school provision follows the same dates.
Parents should not assume that MOE’s national date is the reporting time on the school gate. Schools issue their own instructions for arrival, uniform, collection and P1 transition programmes. The correct sequence is national date first, then the school’s specific notice.
What are the four MOE primary school terms in 2027?
MOE’s school-term announcement covers the mainstream primary and secondary calendar for 2027. The official schedule gives four terms and three shorter or longer vacations between them. These dates provide the anchor for family leave, travel, child supervision and learning planning, but not the timing of every test, CCA session or school event.
Do not substitute the academic calendar of an international school, an independent programme or a student care operator for the MOE mainstream calendar. Those institutions can use different term arrangements or closures. For this table, the setting is mainstream MOE primary schools in Singapore.
When are the March, June, September and year-end holidays?
The first short break comes between Term 1 and Term 2, from 13 to 21 March. The mid-year vacation runs from 29 May to 27 June, and the September break lasts from 4 to 12 September. The year-end vacation begins on 20 November and continues to 31 December. In every case, the dates include weekends shown in MOE’s calendar.
A family should check whether an organised holiday camp starts at the beginning of the vacation or only on the next weekday. Some student care centres extend to full-day holiday programmes but may have their own closure days, charges and booking deadlines. The MOE term calendar does not guarantee that a commercial programme operates on every day of a school holiday.
Use the detailed canonical School Holidays 2027 Singapore for the complete dates, and treat this guide as the parent’s plan for childcare, school transitions and workload rather than a competing holiday database.
Which 2027 school holidays are not ordinary term vacations?
Four dates are worth adding separately to a family calendar: Monday, 5 July is the school holiday following Youth Day; Tuesday, 10 August is the school holiday after National Day; Friday, 3 September is Teachers’ Day; and Friday, 8 October is Children’s Day for primary schools and the primary sections of full schools.
The published 2027 school schedule also shows school closures or designated days off-in-lieu on Tuesday, 9 February, Monday, 3 May and Monday, 27 December. These have particular consequences for households relying on a school office, school-based student care or Kindergarten Care; check the provider’s actual notice rather than assuming its hours are normal.
A national public holiday and a school-scheduled holiday are not the same administrative category. Employers, community childcare centres and school-based centres can follow different operational calendars, even when everyone refers to the date as a ‘holiday’ in ordinary conversation.
Which 2027 public holidays matter for primary families?
Singapore’s published 2027 gazetted public holidays include New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Good Friday, Labour Day, Hari Raya Haji, Vesak Day, National Day, Deepavali and Christmas Day. The Ministry of Manpower’s national calendar is the official reference for public holiday and observed-day arrangements.
For example, Chinese New Year falls on Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 February 2027; Monday, 8 February is a public holiday, and Tuesday, 9 February is a designated school day off-in-lieu. The result is a longer break for schoolchildren than a parent might infer from seeing just the two festival dates on a wall calendar.
Do not book an expensive programme around an assumed one-day closure without checking whether the provider observes the school’s additional day. The family’s calendar must combine the MOE school timetable, MOM public holidays and the childcare provider’s written operational notice.
A Primary 1 parent’s 2027 first-week plan
Three weeks before school starts, confirm uniform, shoes, bag, labels, emergency contacts and reporting arrangements. A young child needs a small number of repeated, concrete routines: where to place the water bottle, how to find the classroom, when to ask for help and whom to approach if they cannot find a parent at dismissal.
The first week is not the right time to measure academic success by advanced worksheets. A child who can eat at recess, locate the toilet, tell an adult they need help and begin a short classroom task is doing demanding developmental work. These foundations make later reading and Mathematics easier to learn because they reduce the cognitive burden of merely navigating school.
Create a two-column note for the first day: what the adult must handle and what the child can practise doing. Move one small task from the adult column to the child column each week, rather than expecting perfect independence immediately.
A Primary 2–6 parent’s first-week plan
Returning pupils normally start on Tuesday, 5 January 2027. They still face changes: a new class teacher, new classroom, different homework routines and potentially new CCA or assessment arrangements. Primary 3 pupils may be meeting Science as a formal subject. Primary 5 pupils may have newly decided Standard and Foundation subject combinations.
Ask the child to check three things early: where homework is communicated, what has changed in the timetable, and which adult to ask about a lesson that becomes difficult. Returning children often appear confident because they know the school building while quietly struggling with the new academic workload.
Plan one family review after the first fortnight. If a subject feels much harder, ask for a representative task and identify the actual learning gap. A vague statement such as ‘this year is very hard’ becomes actionable when it is translated into a missed fraction concept, confusing comprehension question or unfamiliar Science diagram.
How working parents can plan leave without using every day at once
Start with four types of dates: the child’s first reporting day, term-vacation periods, one-off school closures and care-provider closures. Then add the family’s likely pinch points, such as orientation, school transfers, CCA competitions or a working parent’s peak workload.
Reserve adult leave for dates when the child actually needs direct care, not automatically for every vacation day. Some families arrange student care, relatives, approved camps or alternating parental schedules. Whatever arrangement is chosen, confirm who is responsible for the child throughout handover and collection.
For dual-working households, maintain one shared calendar with the school’s exact dismissal time, the centre’s opening hours and a backup adult contact. A calendar becomes useful when it connects an official date to a specific human responsibility.
When do CCAs affect a primary school timetable?
Co-Curricular Activities often become more prominent from Primary 3 onwards, but participation requirements, recruitment windows and session times vary by school. Some schools start P3 recruitment in Term 2 and activities in Term 3; others conduct CCA sessions within school timetable blocks. It would be misleading to say every primary pupil must attend a CCA on the same weekday.
Ask the school when choices are made, whether attendance is required after enrolment, whether sessions continue during examination periods and whether additional competitions or performances require travel. A family booking a weekly external class must account for actual school CCA days before paying for a term.
See the connected P3–P6 CCA selection and attendance guide for a fuller discussion of choice, trials, workload and changing activities.
When are 2027 primary examinations or weighted assessments?
MOE’s national term dates do not constitute a timetable for school-based weighted assessments. P1 and P2 have no weighted assessments or examinations under MOE policy. From P3 onwards, schools communicate their own assessment plans within the national policy; mid-year examinations have been removed across primary levels.
For P6, PSLE dates are set by SEAB and communicated through official examination timetables and the child’s school. Do not infer a national-examination date from a past-year-paper sale, an independent tuition timetable or a school-holiday calendar. Confirm the correct year and examination component.
The correct planning response is to add confirmed school and SEAB dates only when published. See our P1–P6 assessment and report-book guide for how to use the assessment evidence without turning every week into exam season.
What should children do during school holidays?
Some rest and unstructured play belong in a genuine school holiday. Children also benefit from modest, sustained contact with reading, number sense, movement and conversation. A family can choose two or three recurring activities rather than fill six weeks with separate tuition packages.
A practical example: ten minutes of reading or conversation on several mornings, a small real-life Mathematics activity during shopping, and regular visits to parks, libraries or community places. The objective is not to pre-teach an entire new syllabus but to keep ideas available and return children to school feeling recovered.
When a child has a documented learning gap, choose one targeted skill. Revisit it in several contexts and check whether the child can use it independently. A large workbook may look productive while leaving the same misconception untouched.
The March break: recover and repair one gap
The first 2027 vacation is short. Treat it as a breathing space between two active terms. Ask your child what has become easier since January and what remains confusing. Use real work examples rather than a general prediction of future grades.
Choose one repair target such as interpreting comparison words in a Mathematics problem or locating evidence in a reading passage. Work on it briefly, then return to ordinary activities. A nine-day break is not a reason to begin a high-pressure holiday examination camp.
Working parents may need care for the weekdays within the break. Confirm the school-based centre’s actual vacation operating hours and meal provisions rather than assuming that normal after-school hours extend automatically.
The June break: when time expands, quality matters
The long mid-year break spans 29 May to 27 June 2027. Families sometimes interpret a month without ordinary classes as a month that must be fully occupied with revision. That can produce fatigue before Term 3 begins. The more useful question is which combination of recovery, recreation, curiosity and light practice supports the child.
Organise the month into broad themes rather than dozens of timed tasks. One week might include library reading, another a family project and another focused practice of an identified subject gap. Include physical movement, social contact and sufficient sleep throughout.
If a Primary 5 child is struggling with a Standard or Foundation topic, use school feedback to distinguish concept gaps from answer-presentation problems. Additional tuition only makes sense if it addresses the actual point of failure.
September: a short holiday before the final term
Teachers’ Day falls on Friday, 3 September 2027, and the September vacation follows from 4 to 12 September. Families planning travel should keep the distinction between a scheduled Teachers’ Day school holiday and the vacation dates clear, particularly for siblings in different education systems.
Use the September break to organise schoolwork, revisit difficult concepts and reset sleep routines. Primary 6 families may be preparing for national examinations on a different timetable, so school instructions take precedence over a generic ‘September revision’ plan.
For younger pupils, ordinary reading and a little mathematical play can be enough. A child who returns able to concentrate and manage school routines has gained something important.
The year-end holidays and a new level of independence
Term 4 ends on Friday, 19 November 2027, with the vacation beginning Saturday, 20 November and running through 31 December. A child entering P2, P3, P5 or Secondary 1 in 2028 faces a different transition, so the family should not assume identical holiday study goals for all siblings.
Use part of the break for curiosity and ordinary responsibilities. Let children help plan a family route, estimate grocery costs, prepare a simple project or write a note to a relative. These activities exercise reading, calculation and communication without turning the household into a second classroom.
Before January 2028, check the next year’s official calendar, not the 2027 dates copied forward. For a child leaving P6, the Secondary 1 school will provide its own reporting, subject-level and orientation instructions.
What happens to school-based student care on closed school days?
A primary-school student care place is a separate arrangement from ordinary classroom enrolment. The care operator may provide holiday programmes or full-day services on certain vacation days, but it may also close on gazetted public holidays and designated school closure days. MSF’s fee-assistance provisions are separate from the centre’s operating schedule.
Ask for a written list of closure dates, regular versus vacation operating hours, late-pickup fees, meals, attendance expectations and what happens on days with CCAs or school activities. A child should never be left at a locked school gate because adults assumed the centre would be open.
See student care centres, waiting lists and 2027 SCFA for the complete care and financial-assistance route.
Worked example: a P1 child and P4 sibling with two working parents
Imagine a household with a child entering P1 and another starting P4. The younger child reports on Monday, 4 January; the older returns Tuesday, 5 January. The family needs one adult for P1 orientation while the older child remains at home on Monday, and then must establish two school-day routines on Tuesday.
The family next checks whether student care accepts the younger child from the correct start date, whether the older child has CCA sessions after school, and who collects each child. In June, the family checks whether the centre offers full-day vacation provision and whether its charges differ.
This example illustrates the value of a routing calendar. The national school dates alone cannot tell the family who will be present at 2 pm or which adult is authorised to collect each child. A successful plan connects dates to practical responsibilities.
Five checks before you book a holiday or course
Check the MOE national dates; read the child’s school calendar; confirm the care provider’s exact opening and closure dates; check the terms of any paid holiday programme; and consider the child’s ordinary energy and learning needs. These checks are particularly important before paying a non-refundable travel deposit.
Do not assume international schools and mainstream MOE schools share term dates. Nor should you assume that the annual sports carnival, school camp or internal assessment week is nationally standardised. The school’s current Parents Gateway notice is the appropriate source for such events.
Save the verified links in one place and write the date you checked them. If the school later revises an event, update the family calendar promptly rather than letting an old screenshot continue circulating.
