How to decide which Secondary School to go to? | Manjusri Secondary School

Three learners review open books together at a classroom table, with stacks of textbooks, stationery and a whiteboard in the bright room.

Choosing a secondary school is not a search for one universal winner. It is a decision about where a particular twelve-year-old can learn, belong, contribute and recover enough energy to do it again the next day. This guide turns current facts about Manjusri Secondary School into questions a family can actually use.

Should Manjusri Secondary School be on this child’s shortlist?

Manjusri Secondary School is a compelling school to investigate for a learner who wants technology to respond to human needs and who values the arts as a way to communicate and grow. Its Smart City and Sustainable Technologies ALP currently begins with microcontrollers, coding and design around elderly or less-able users, while its Learning through the ARTS LLP develops expression through performing and visual arts.

Another school may be better when the Ubi journey becomes tiring after two 3–6pm activity days, when affiliation is being treated as a substitute for fit, or when an essential subject or CCA route remains unresolved. The school’s real timetable evidence is useful precisely because it lets a family test enthusiasm against the ordinary week.

Did you know? A smart-city idea is not smart merely because it uses a sensor. It becomes educationally interesting when a pupil understands a person’s difficulty, chooses what should be detected, tests reliability and notices unintended consequences. That human-centred question is a strong fit test for Manjusri.

Our recommendation is to shortlist Manjusri when assistive design, arts participation and its published mindfulness-for-learning support match the learner, the current CCA rhythm is sustainable and the intended combination is verified. If girls’ table tennis, Tamil arrangements or another access route matters, make that the named unresolved requirement and obtain a current answer before ranking.

Historical 2025 PSLE ranges (2026 Secondary 1 intake)—not future guarantees

The table below reports the PSLE score ranges shown by MOE for the 2025 PSLE cohort (2026 Secondary 1 intake). A cut-off point reflects the last posted pupil in that exercise. It can move from year to year, and a pupil who met an endpoint may still have been tie-broken out. Use the table to plan a realistic set of choices, never to rank the quality of pupils or schools.

Posting routeAffiliatedNon-affiliated
Posting Group 315–2215–21
Posting Group 222–2521–25
Posting Group 125–2825–30*
MOE 2025 PSLE score ranges. “Affiliated” applies only when current affiliation conditions are met.

Read MOE’s explanation of Posting Groups. Posting Group 1, 2 or 3 supports initial posting and the starting level for most subjects. It is not the same thing as the G1, G2 or G3 level at which an individual subject may later be taken under Full Subject-Based Banding.

DSA is a specialised route with a commitment

2026 DSA areas listed for this school: Chinese Calligraphy; Chinese Dance (girls); Chinese Orchestra; Choir; Concert Band; Table Tennis; Wushu. These apply to the 2026 exercise for the relevant intake. Read the school’s current DSA information and MOE’s DSA guidance for dates, selection and obligations. Listing an area does not mean every applicant is shortlisted or offered a place.

The school’s current 2026 DSA pages cover 2027 Secondary 1 entry, with applications from 6 May to 2 June 2026 at 4.30pm and published criteria for each route. The arts and sports areas involve selection and a continuing commitment. DSA must remain distinct from mainstream posting and from applying for a CCA place after enrolment.

Subjects need a combination and prerequisite check

Current MOE-listed provision includes: Additional Mathematics; Art; Basic Chinese and Malay; Biology; Chemistry; Chinese Language and Chinese Language Syllabus B; Computer Applications; Design and Technology; Elements of Business Skills; English Language; Geography; Higher Chinese; Humanities; Literature in English and Chinese; Malay Language; Mathematics; Music; Nutrition and Food Science; Physics; Principles of Accounts; Science and Science combinations; Social Studies. This establishes present provision, not universal access. Ask which subjects, combinations and G-levels apply to the intended cohort, what prerequisites are used, and whether an external centre or limited allocation affects the plan.

MOE notes that Tamil Language pupils attend the nearest designated Tamil Language Centre after school. Current provision does not prove every upper-secondary combination or prerequisite, so families should obtain the actual cohort document and include external-language travel where relevant.

CCAs need an access and time check

Current MOE-listed CCAs include: Badminton (boys); Basketball (girls); Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting; Chinese Dance (girls); Chinese Orchestra; Choir; Community Service; Concert Band; Football (boys); Girl Guides; Infocomm Media; NCC Land (boys); NPCC; Scouts (boys); Table Tennis (boys); Wushu. A listing confirms that the school offers the activity; it does not reserve a place. Ask about trials, allocation, weekly sessions, competition or performance seasons, equipment and the return journey.

Manjusri’s official page links a document titled CCA Schedule 2026. Examples include Chinese Orchestra on Wednesday 3–6pm and Friday 2–5pm; Choir and Chinese Calligraphy on Monday and Wednesday 3–6pm; and several sports from 3–6pm on two weekdays. The document also shows girls’ table-tennis sessions while current SchoolFinder lists ordinary Table Tennis for boys only. Families must ask the school to resolve ordinary girls’ access for the intended intake rather than infer it.

Support must be matched to the learner

MOE lists Special Educational Needs Officers. Read the school’s current support or programme information, then discuss the learner’s functional needs directly with the school. A role title alone cannot confirm the intervention, frequency or classroom arrangement that one child will receive.

Five decision routes

DECISION NOTE 1 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

1. Begin with the person, not the sensor

The ALP is Smart City and Sustainable Technologies.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask what daily difficulty the learner would want to understand before choosing a device or code. Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Keep verified provision, family interpretation and unresolved question in separate lines. A decision becomes less reliable when one attractive fact quietly turns into a promise.

Use the current official page for the intended cohort. Programme details, combinations, DSA routes and activity schedules can change after this guide is published.

DECISION NOTE 2 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

2. Confirm the Secondary 1 foundation

The official page describes microcontrollers, coding and needs of elderly or less-able people.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask what every pupil designs and how teachers help beginners move from empathy to a testable idea. Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Put the opportunity inside an ordinary weekday with travel, lessons, meals, CCA, homework and sleep. Fit is a weekly system, not an open-house feeling.

Ask for one current lower-secondary example and its access rule. A programme heading cannot prove what every incoming pupil will actually do.

DECISION NOTE 3 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

3. Confirm the Secondary 2 progression

The programme extends design thinking into smart-city problems.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask how pupils gather user evidence, evaluate prototypes and explain trade-offs rather than adding technology for show. Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Name the access layer: whole cohort, subject choice, elective, selected enrichment, audition or trial, DSA commitment, or an opportunity still awaiting confirmation.

If a subject is essential, request the intended cohort’s written combination sheet and prerequisites. SchoolFinder confirms provision, not every combination or level.

DECISION NOTE 4 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

4. Read arts as broad development

The LLP is officially Learning through the ARTS.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask what the whole cohort experiences and separate that from CCA, DSA and performance selection. Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Test a difficult day. Ask who notices, whom the pupil approaches and what the first practical response looks like when confidence, organisation or understanding slips.

Test the home journey at arrival time and after the likely activity finish. Add transfers, rain, food, the final walk and readiness for the next morning.

DECISION NOTE 5 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

5. Use both admission columns

MOE publishes affiliated and non-affiliated 2025 ranges across all three Posting Groups.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Apply only the correct column, label it historical and retain six acceptable choices. Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Let the teenager describe the attraction with a verb: create, investigate, perform, serve, train, debate or design. A verb is more useful than admiration for a school name.

Describe support needs functionally across lessons, assessments, transitions and CCA. Then ask for a named process and contact rather than only a reassuring title.

DECISION NOTE 6 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

6. Explain the 30 asterisk

The non-affiliated PG1 row ends at 30*.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: State MOE’s vacancy rule: the last posted pupil scored better than 30, so the asterisk is not proof of admission at 30. Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Compare one credible alternative using the same standards for access, workload, support and travel. The family should be willing to choose either school if the evidence changes.

Finish with one action: shortlist, investigate one named unknown, or prefer the alternative that answers the learner’s non-negotiable more convincingly.

DECISION NOTE 7 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

7. Verify affiliation precisely

Maha Bodhi School and Mee Toh School are listed affiliations.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Confirm current eligibility and choice-order conditions and then decide whether Manjusri itself fits the child.

DECISION NOTE 8 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

8. Separate posting and subject level

Posting Groups support initial placement; G1, G2 and G3 apply to subjects under Full SBB.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask how the school reviews readiness and supports a change in level.

DECISION NOTE 9 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

9. Obtain the cohort combination sheet

SchoolFinder establishes current provision but not every combination.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Verify prerequisites and capacity for Additional Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, arts or applied subjects that matter.

DECISION NOTE 10 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

10. Plan Tamil travel explicitly

MOE says Tamil lessons are at the nearest designated centre after school.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask which centre, days and travel apply and place them beside CCA and homework.

DECISION NOTE 11 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

11. Use the 2026 schedule as evidence

The school links a document titled CCA Schedule 2026.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Choose the actual activity row, note days and finish, then reconfirm it for the 2027 intake.

DECISION NOTE 12 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

12. Model the arts commitment

Chinese Orchestra currently lists Wednesday 3–6pm and Friday 2–5pm.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Add packing, transport, meals, practice and peak performance periods rather than stopping the calculation at 5pm or 6pm.

DECISION NOTE 13 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

13. Model two-day rehearsals

Choir and Chinese Calligraphy currently list Monday and Wednesday 3–6pm.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask whether additional rehearsals occur before performances and whether the learner wants that repeated practice.

DECISION NOTE 14 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

14. Resolve table-tennis access

The schedule shows boys’ and girls’ sessions, but current SchoolFinder lists ordinary Table Tennis for boys.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask whether girls can join through ordinary allocation, DSA only or another route for the intended intake.

DECISION NOTE 15 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

15. Treat DSA arts as commitment

Calligraphy, dance, orchestra, choir and band are current DSA areas.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Read the current criteria, prepare for the actual selection format and understand the sustained activity obligation.

DECISION NOTE 16 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

16. Treat DSA sport precisely

Table Tennis and Wushu are current DSA areas.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Do not infer ordinary CCA access from DSA availability; verify both routes independently.

DECISION NOTE 17 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

17. Choose a second possible CCA

Allocation can differ from first preference.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Identify one alternative whose weekly practice and gender/access rules are acceptable before committing to the school.

DECISION NOTE 18 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

18. Test Ubi travel after 6pm

The campus is at 20 Ubi Avenue 1.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Run the home journey after a published 6pm finish with waiting, rain, dinner and next-day readiness included.

DECISION NOTE 19 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

19. Use mindfulness practically

The school publishes a Mindfulness for Learning Programme.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Ask what routines pupils practise for attention, calm and study and how these complement—not replace—needed pastoral or clinical support.

DECISION NOTE 20 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

20. Ask how support enters project teams

MOE lists Special Educational Needs Officers.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Describe the learner’s planning, sensory or communication need and ask how group roles, instructions and deadlines are made accessible.

DECISION NOTE 21 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

21. Compare technology without spectacle

Another school may have a different STEM name or newer-looking equipment.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Compare who uses the tools, what problem is understood and how thinking is assessed rather than judging by display value.

DECISION NOTE 22 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

22. Write the human-centred reason

A sound case begins with the learner and the people they hope to serve.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Complete: “Manjusri fits because I want to design or express ___ through the confirmed route ___.” Name the user, access condition and weekly demand before it enters the final performance.

Test a difficult day. Ask who notices, whom the pupil approaches and what the first practical response looks like when confidence, organisation or understanding slips.

Test the home journey at arrival time and after the likely activity finish. Add transfers, rain, food, the final walk and readiness for the next morning.

DECISION NOTE 23 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

23. Name the unresolved casting decision

A production cannot proceed safely with a critical role unassigned.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Write the one subject, activity, language or support answer that could change the ranking.

DECISION NOTE 24 OF 24 · MANJUSRI

24. Make the final presentation

A conclusion should distinguish fact, interpretation and unknown.

Add this to the family’s design-and-rehearsal notes: Shortlist Manjusri when design, arts, support and week align; otherwise investigate the named gap or prefer the alternative with a clearer role for the learner.

Manjusri: six deeper decision conversations

1. Human-centred technology asks better questions

A sensor can detect motion, light or distance, but a useful solution begins with understanding a person’s environment, preferences and dignity. Ask how pupils learn from users, test false readings and respond when the first idea creates a new inconvenience. A learner who likes listening and revising may fit the ALP more deeply than one attracted only to gadgets.

2. Arts access has several stages

Put cohort LLP experience, ordinary CCA, DSA, audition and selected performance on separate lines. Ask what every Secondary 1 pupil does and what a beginner can pursue over time. The school remains a sturdy choice when broad arts learning matters before any prominent performance place is promised.

3. Published time changes the quality of a decision

A Wednesday 3–6pm rehearsal and Friday 2–5pm rehearsal create a different week from one short activity. Add travel, meals, instrument or uniform care, practice and peak-season variation. If the week remains workable, the family has real evidence; if it strains sleep or language-centre travel, another route may protect the learner better.

4. The table-tennis discrepancy is a useful test

Two current official surfaces appear to point in different directions: the schedule includes girls’ training while SchoolFinder lists ordinary Table Tennis for boys. Do not choose the more convenient interpretation. Bring the exact question to the school, record the answer for the intended intake and keep the activity conditional until it is resolved.

5. Mindfulness is a practice, not a cure-all

Short routines for attention and emotional regulation can help many pupils notice stress and return to a task. They do not by themselves answer every learning, mental-health or disability need. Ask what the school teaches to all pupils, what additional support exists and how a family communicates when the child needs more than a common routine.

6. The final design should work for a person

Complete a one-page map with the learner at the centre and branches for programme, subject, CCA, support, language and travel. Mark verified access in solid lines and assumptions in dotted lines. Shortlist Manjusri when the solid route already supports the child; do not require an uncertain selected opportunity to make the design work.

Simulate one Manjusri week before ranking it

A timetable does not capture the whole emotional and practical load of secondary school. This six-part simulation combines current facts with explicit family assumptions. Use it to discover which questions still matter. It is an illustration, not a report of Manjusri Secondary School’s exact timetable or a promise about one pupil’s experience.

1. Morning arrival

Imagine this part of a real Manjusri week rather than an open-house highlight. Begin with “Begin with the person, not the sensor”: The ALP is Smart City and Sustainable Technologies. Then test the Ubi arrival with the learner. The family should identify what the pupil actually does, how long it takes, who notices difficulty and what happens next. A choice becomes more trustworthy when the attractive opportunity can be placed inside a normal day without losing meals, sleep, relationships or the ability to ask for help.

Now add a second constraint from “Confirm the Secondary 1 foundation”. Ask what every pupil designs and how teachers help beginners move from empathy to a testable idea. Record the answer as confirmed provision, family interpretation or unresolved question. Compare the same moment at one acceptable alternative school. The purpose is not to predict every day; it is to reveal whether the family has quietly assumed unlimited time, guaranteed access or effortless confidence. If the model strains, revise the commitment or the school order before expecting the teenager to absorb the cost.

2. A demanding lesson

Imagine this part of a real Manjusri week rather than an open-house highlight. Begin with “Use both admission columns”: MOE publishes affiliated and non-affiliated 2025 ranges across all three Posting Groups. Then ask whose need the design serves. The family should identify what the pupil actually does, how long it takes, who notices difficulty and what happens next. A choice becomes more trustworthy when the attractive opportunity can be placed inside a normal day without losing meals, sleep, relationships or the ability to ask for help.

Now add a second constraint from “Explain the 30 asterisk”. State MOE’s vacancy rule: the last posted pupil scored better than 30, so the asterisk is not proof of admission at 30.

3. CCA afternoon

Imagine this part of a real Manjusri week rather than an open-house highlight. Begin with “Obtain the cohort combination sheet”: SchoolFinder establishes current provision but not every combination. Then use the published activity schedule. The family should identify what the pupil actually does, how long it takes, who notices difficulty and what happens next. A choice becomes more trustworthy when the attractive opportunity can be placed inside a normal day without losing meals, sleep, relationships or the ability to ask for help.

Now add a second constraint from “Plan Tamil travel explicitly”. Ask which centre, days and travel apply and place them beside CCA and homework.

4. A help-seeking moment

Imagine this part of a real Manjusri week rather than an open-house highlight. Begin with “Model two-day rehearsals”: Choir and Chinese Calligraphy currently list Monday and Wednesday 3–6pm. Then name the help routine before stress rises. The family should identify what the pupil actually does, how long it takes, who notices difficulty and what happens next. A choice becomes more trustworthy when the attractive opportunity can be placed inside a normal day without losing meals, sleep, relationships or the ability to ask for help.

Now add a second constraint from “Resolve table-tennis access”. Ask whether girls can join through ordinary allocation, DSA only or another route for the intended intake.

5. Friday recovery

Imagine this part of a real Manjusri week rather than an open-house highlight. Begin with “Choose a second possible CCA”: Allocation can differ from first preference. Then leave recovery after rehearsal or training. The family should identify what the pupil actually does, how long it takes, who notices difficulty and what happens next. A choice becomes more trustworthy when the attractive opportunity can be placed inside a normal day without losing meals, sleep, relationships or the ability to ask for help.

Now add a second constraint from “Test Ubi travel after 6pm”. Run the home journey after a published 6pm finish with waiting, rain, dinner and next-day readiness included.

6. Weekend review

Imagine this part of a real Manjusri week rather than an open-house highlight. Begin with “Compare technology without spectacle”: Another school may have a different STEM name or newer-looking equipment. Then let the learner present the recommendation. The family should identify what the pupil actually does, how long it takes, who notices difficulty and what happens next. A choice becomes more trustworthy when the attractive opportunity can be placed inside a normal day without losing meals, sleep, relationships or the ability to ask for help.

Now add a second constraint from “Write the human-centred reason”. Complete: “Manjusri fits because I want to design or express ___ through the confirmed route ___.” Record the answer as confirmed provision, family interpretation or unresolved question. Compare the same moment at one acceptable alternative school. The purpose is not to predict every day; it is to reveal whether the family has quietly assumed unlimited time, guaranteed access or effortless confidence. If the model strains, revise the commitment or the school order before expecting the teenager to absorb the cost.

After the simulation, circle the moment most likely to decide fit. Ask the school one precise question about it and keep the response with the choice notes. If the answer confirms access, support and a sustainable routine, the shortlist becomes stronger. If it exposes a non-negotiable mismatch, choosing another school is a constructive decision, not a rejection of Manjusri Secondary School’s real strengths.

A compact open-house plan

Bring the learner, the actual home-to-Manjusri journey and one unresolved requirement. Ask for an example rather than a slogan: a current lower-secondary task, a subject-combination prerequisite, a CCA week or the way support begins. Write down whether the opportunity is whole-cohort, elective, selected, trial-based or still unconfirmed.

  • What will every Secondary 1 pupil do?
  • What requires selection, audition, trial or DSA commitment?
  • Which subject combination or support fact could change our decision?
  • What time does the likely CCA end during its busiest season?
  • Who should our child approach during the first month if something is not working?

Three realistic family scenarios

The enthusiastic beginner

The pupil likes Manjusri’s distinctive direction but has no competition record. The family should ask about the cohort-wide beginner experience first. If that route remains meaningful without selected enrichment, the school has a sound fit reason. If the attraction depends entirely on a place that cannot be confirmed, keep another school with accessible provision.

The capable learner with a long journey

The pupil could meet a historical admission reference and enjoys the programme, but the return after CCA approaches dinner time. The family should test the route twice, map sleep and homework, and compare a nearer acceptable school. Capability does not remove the cost of chronic fatigue.

The learner who needs predictable support

The pupil may thrive when routines, help contacts and transitions are explicit. The family should describe the need functionally and ask how support works in lessons, CCA and assessment. A general assurance is encouraging; a named process is decision evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Is the historical cut-off a prediction?

No. The 2025 range is a planning reference from one posting exercise. Demand, vacancies and tie-breaking can change. Keep six acceptable choices and use current MOE information when the option form opens.

Does Posting Group decide every subject level?

No. Posting Group supports initial placement. Under Full SBB, a pupil may take individual subjects at G1, G2 or G3 according to readiness and school arrangements. Ask how review and movement work for the intended cohort.

Does a listed programme reach every pupil?

Not necessarily. Whole-cohort curriculum, elective modules, selected enrichment, DSA commitment and CCA participation are different forms of access. Ask the school to name the category for the opportunity that matters.

Does a listed CCA guarantee a place?
