RIVER VALLEY · SECONDARY 3 · FAMILY LEARNING ROUTINES
Secondary 3 POA tuition works best when the day supports a precise school difficulty. River Valley parents choosing weekday or weekend sessions can begin with a recent attempt, identify the first misunderstood step and choose a routine with room for correction and a fresh question.
A weekday may keep a school error close to its correction. A weekend may give a tired student more thinking space. Either needs a brief later check to show whether your child can explain and use the method independently.
Here is an expense-adjustment case: a business incurs $200 of electricity expense for the year but pays only $150 by year end. The expense is $200 and the unpaid $50 is electricity expense payable. Payment and expense answer different questions.
Choose the task, then the day
Start with a current school difficulty. Choose a routine that supports diagnosis, a clear method, independent practice and a later check.

Bring a current school question and your child’s own attempt. Identify whether the difficulty is reading the period, distinguishing expense from payment, preparing the adjustment or explaining its effect.
A precise target makes tuition easier to evaluate. A student who knows $50 remains unpaid but records the liability backwards needs different feedback from one who thinks expense equals cash paid.
Confirm suitable POA teaching for the registered course. Ask directly about actual provision, delivery arrangements and available times rather than assuming a River Valley class exists.
A fictional business incurs $200 of electricity expense for its current financial year. By year end it has paid $150 through Bank, leaving $50 outstanding. Assume no opening amount payable, no prepayment and no other electricity transactions.
The year’s expense is $200 because that is the electricity cost incurred for the year. The payment is $150. The remaining $200 − $150 = $50 is electricity expense payable, a current liability.
If the payment was initially recorded as an expense, its entry is debit Electricity Expense $150 and credit Bank $150. At year end, record debit Electricity Expense $50 and credit Electricity Expense Payable $50.
The expense account now contains $200. The payable account has a $50 credit balance. The adjustment does not credit Bank: the additional $50 has not yet been paid.
Check the reconciliation: expense incurred $200 equals amount paid $150 plus unpaid amount $50. This relation uses the stated absence of an opening payable or prepayment.
If the adjustment is omitted, expenses are understated by $50, profit overstated by $50 and current liabilities understated by $50. Bank is unchanged by making or omitting this year-end adjustment.

A weekday can suit a recent school error if your child can still concentrate after school. Plan around travel, food and CCA so the session begins with enough energy to reason.
Start with one question: which amount belongs to the year’s expense, and which amount has left Bank? Once the distinction is clear, connect it to the entries.
A later brief check can ask why the adjustment contains no Bank entry. The answer should refer to the unpaid amount, not just repeat debit and credit labels.

A weekend can give space to move from the business event to calculation, recording and financial-statement effects. Let your child explain each step before combining them.
Begin with one school misconception and use a changed case after correcting it. A long mixed worksheet is less useful if the expense-versus-payment distinction remains unclear.
Leave a small return during the following week. Independent reconstruction after a gap shows whether the explanation has become usable.

Identify the expense incurred for the period, the amount paid and the amount outstanding. Label them before calculating so that a payment figure is not mistaken for the entire expense.
Next check what is already recorded. In this case, the $150 payment has been expensed, so the adjustment adds the unpaid $50 to expense and recognises a liability.
Finally check the totals and effects. The entry balances; the expense becomes $200; the liability becomes $50; no further bank payment is invented.

Keep the current-year electricity expense at $200 but change the amount paid to $170. The unpaid portion is now $30.
Under the same initial expense-recording approach, the payment entry is debit Electricity Expense $170 and credit Bank $170. The adjustment is debit Electricity Expense $30 and credit Electricity Expense Payable $30.
Ask why the final expense is still $200 while the payable changes. More of the same incurred expense has been paid; the amount incurred has not changed.
Then attempt an applicable school question independently. If its facts introduce another period or a different adjustment, read those facts rather than applying this small reconciliation blindly.

When enquiring about an eduKate 3-pax format, confirm suitable POA teaching and ask how each learner’s explanation is checked.
Useful feedback distinguishes a misread amount from a reversed entry or an unsupported financial-statement effect. Ask how a fresh question verifies that the correction transfers.
Confirm the actual venue or online arrangement, fees, teaching level and available weekday/weekend slots. Group size alone does not describe the feedback your child will receive.

Check your child’s registered course and examination year with the school. SEAB has separate 2027 SEC G3 and 2027 SEC G2 syllabus pages.
The official G3 POA syllabus includes expenses payable, related calculations and entries, and effects on financial statements. It specifies period-end adjustments against separate payable accounts.
This case supports one adjustment skill. Use the applicable document and school sequence to decide the wider teaching or revision plan.

Whichever day you try, keep the initial target the same: distinguish incurred expense from payment, record the adjustment and explain one error’s effect.
Observe attention during the session and recall afterwards. If calculations improve but entries remain unclear, work on recording next; if fatigue drives repeated reading slips, revisit the time.
Change one part of the routine at a time. Explanation, practice level and follow-up can matter as much as choosing weekday or weekend.

Share a recent school attempt and describe the precise difficulty. Ask how suitable POA support would diagnose it and check a correction independently.
Include the school course, current topic and realistic weekday and weekend availability. Confirm actual provision and scheduling before choosing.
A workable routine connects the school question to a clear method, a fresh attempt and a check. Choose the day that gives your child enough attention for that sequence.
