SECONDARY 4 · BUKIT MERAH · FAMILY ROUTINES
Secondary 4 Principles of Accounts (POA) tuition in Bukit Merah should give revision a clear checking job. A weekday may suit a focused correction in calculating a disposal result. A weekend may suit a connected entry and explanation, with enough attention left to review the first error.
Match practice to the actual examination year and registered subject level. Then find the first uncertain step: identifying accumulated depreciation, calculating carrying amount, comparing proceeds or recording the disposal. Each step needs the right kind of follow-up.
Did you know that the cash received from selling equipment is not automatically the profit from selling it? If equipment has a carrying amount of $800 and is sold for $650, the simplified disposal produces a $150 loss. Separating proceeds from the carrying amount makes the result much easier to explain.

Questions and the next step
A disposal question connects several decisions. Locate the first uncertainty in the student’s marked attempt.
Cost, accumulated depreciation, carrying amount and sale proceeds are distinct amounts.
Ask the student to explain which amount measures the asset immediately before disposal.
Choose a revision task that repairs that step before increasing timing pressure.
Select a slot that leaves attention for the correction and a later independent check.
A fictional business disposes of equipment costing $2,000. Accumulated depreciation at the disposal date is $1,200.
Assume depreciation is already fully updated to that date, proceeds of $650 are received into bank, and there are no disposal costs, taxes or other adjustments.
Carrying amount immediately before disposal is $800: $2,000 − $1,200.
Compare the $650 proceeds with that $800 carrying amount. The disposal loss is $150.
The $650 is cash received, not the profit from the transaction. Comparing it only with original cost ignores the accumulated depreciation already recorded.
A combined disposal entry is debit Bank $650, debit Accumulated Depreciation—Equipment $1,200, debit Loss on Disposal $150 and credit Equipment $2,000.
The entry removes the equipment’s cost and its accumulated depreciation and records the proceeds and loss. Use the actual course’s required presentation, which may use a disposal account.
Check the entry: total debits of $2,000 equal the equipment credit of $2,000. Also check the reason for each amount.
Change the proceeds to $950 while keeping cost and accumulated depreciation unchanged. The carrying amount remains $800, and the disposal produces a $150 gain.
That variation credits Gain on Disposal $150 rather than debiting a loss. Proceeds and carrying amount determine the direction under these assumptions.

A weekday can suit a focused repair when the student compares proceeds with original cost.
Bring the marked question and original calculation. Identify the amount missing from that comparison.
Allow travel, food and settling time before reading the disposal conditions.
Ask for carrying amount first, then gain or loss.
Leave a later changed proceeds figure for independent practice.
If follow-up repeatedly becomes rushed, move the slot or reduce the task.

A weekend can provide room to connect the numerical result with removing the asset from the records.
Keep original cost, accumulated depreciation, carrying amount and proceeds separately labelled.
Ask why accumulated depreciation is removed when the equipment is disposed of.
Pause before the gain variation so the student has to compare the amounts independently.
A timed task is useful once the method is secure. Review should still identify the first wrong decision.
Protect recovery and other revision responsibilities. A longer session needs a clear learning job.

Read the disposal date and determine whether depreciation is already updated. The example explicitly supplies the updated amount.
Identify original cost and accumulated depreciation for the asset being disposed of.
Calculate carrying amount immediately before disposal.
Compare proceeds with carrying amount to determine gain or loss under the actual conditions.
Record the proceeds, removal of cost and accumulated depreciation, and the resulting gain or loss in the required format.
Check the arithmetic and explain why the asset’s balances should no longer remain after complete disposal.
Try a changed proceeds amount without supplied steps. A reliable method should adapt.

If the student compares proceeds with cost, return to accumulated depreciation and carrying amount.
If they treat proceeds as gain, ask what asset value must be removed.
If they reverse gain and loss, compare what was received with the carrying amount given up.
If they remove equipment cost but leave accumulated depreciation, trace both balances belonging to the disposed asset.
If depreciation timing is wrong, repair the date reading before adding more disposal entries.
Change one condition at a time before a fuller question.
Keep an actionable correction note such as ‘update carrying amount before comparing proceeds’.

Another examination year requires its own applicable requirements. School confirms registration and assessment arrangements.
Use the course’s required disposal-account or journal presentation and the question’s depreciation instructions.
The example deliberately supplies accumulated depreciation at the disposal date. Actual questions may require that calculation first.

Agree on one aim: calculate carrying amount, determine gain or loss and explain the removal.
Later, change proceeds and ask for the result and entry without prompts.
Check the explanation as well as equality of the entry. A balanced set of amounts may still reflect a wrong decision.
Use the first remaining difficulty to choose the next practice.
Review homework, travel, sleep and recovery alongside progress. Keep the routine when it supports the whole revision week.

Are sale proceeds the same as gain? No. The stated example compares proceeds with the asset’s carrying amount.
Why remove accumulated depreciation? It belongs to the disposed equipment and must be removed with its cost in this complete disposal.
Should every question use the combined entry shown? Follow the actual course and question’s required format; a disposal account may be required.
Which day helps most? Choose the slot that supports the identified correction and a later independent try.
Use the POA subject guide for a starting point.
Bring the original attempt and actual examination route. Ask for a targeted next task and review point, then confirm provision and arrangements.
