Did you know? H2 Biology asks students to do more than remember biological terms. Choose it if you are interested in explaining living systems, interpreting evidence and building precise answers, while allowing time for a substantial subject.
Start with your current biology learning and the junior college’s own requirements. Catholic Junior College describes H2 Biology as building on an assumed O-Level Biology background. That description is useful preparation guidance; it is not a universal admission rule.
Then check your proposed combination and possible university courses. Enjoying biology is valuable, but a suitable choice also depends on workload, the subjects offered together and the prerequisites of the programmes you may apply to.

Consider whether you enjoy explaining how a process works, rather than recognising its name alone. Can you connect a change in one part of a system to its effect elsewhere? Do you like asking what evidence supports an explanation?
Jurong Pioneer Junior College’s syllabus page describes areas including cells and biomolecules, genetics, energetics and evolution, with extension topics involving climate change and infectious diseases. Use these as a starting point for exploring the subject’s range.
Read a short sample question with your teacher. Notice whether the task asks for a mechanism, a comparison or an inference from unfamiliar information. Interest in these activities can tell you more than liking a single chapter at secondary school.
Review recent work for the quality of your explanations. A correct keyword is useful, but an answer often needs a clear relationship between ideas. Ask your teacher where your reasoning is strong and where it becomes incomplete.
Practise reading a graph or a short experimental description and stating what the evidence actually shows. Keep an observation separate from an explanation. This helps you avoid adding conclusions that the information does not support.
JPJC lists multiple forms of H2 assessment, including structured and extended responses and practical work. Ask your intended JC for its current syllabus and assessment guidance so your preparation reflects the intake you will join.

Find out which combinations the JC offers and what conditions apply to taking H2 Biology. A combination that appears possible on paper may be affected by the school’s timetable or subject rules.
If you are considering medicine, life sciences or another related field, check each university programme’s current prerequisites directly. Biology alone does not establish eligibility, and admission is not guaranteed by a particular subject choice.
Compare the role of your other subjects too. Our H2 Chemistry guide and JC subject-combination guide can help you organise that discussion without assuming one combination suits everyone.

Build a weekly routine that includes reviewing concepts, writing explanations and working with unfamiliar data. Reading notes repeatedly may feel productive, but checking what you can explain without them gives better feedback.
Keep a small record of corrections. Was the problem missing knowledge, unclear wording, an unsupported inference or misunderstanding the question? A specific diagnosis makes the next practice session more useful.
Before deciding, bring your proposed combination, recent work and future course questions to a teacher or JC adviser. Choose H2 Biology when the subject’s demands and your interests fit together, then review how your learning routine is working early in the course.
