A recall action is complete, but vigilance continues
A hospital modifies affected medical devices under an approved recall action. Post-recall surveillance checks whether the corrective measure remains effective and whether new concerns appear during use.
Define the follow-up scope
The manufacturer’s notice, regulator guidance and local risk assessment may determine what needs monitoring.
Track affected assets
Device identifiers, configuration and maintenance records support accurate follow-up.
Observe relevant performance
Monitor the failure mode or safety concern that prompted the recall, using appropriate technical and clinical checks.
Support frontline reporting
Staff should know how to report unexpected behaviour and where to escalate concerns.
Avoid assuming zero reports means zero risk
Reporting quality, device usage and observation periods affect interpretation.
Document further action
New findings may require additional restrictions, assessment or communication under authorised procedures.
Break-test: the same fault reappears after modification
Can the hospital identify affected devices and reopen the safety response promptly?
