Things to Do In Bukit Timah | Ballet, K-Pop, Hip-Hop & Dance Classes

Lift and overhead roof detail inside Beauty World Centre in Bukit Timah.

Where can you take ballet, K-pop, hip-hop or ballroom dance classes in Bukit Timah? Around Beauty World MRT, begin with Joyful Steps & Rhythm at Beauty World Centre #03-29/30, which teaches children’s ballet, hip-hop, K-pop, jazz and adult dance, or Aure Studios at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre #08-01, offering children’s pop dance, DanceSport, Latin, ballroom, hip-hop and beginner adult ballet. For a smaller ballet-focused option, Lumi Dance Academy at 52A Jalan Jurong Kechil offers classical ballet, contemporary training and its adult Ballet Bloom programme. All That Jazz at Dunearn Village #02-11 near King Albert Park MRT offers a wider performing-arts curriculum, from Little Movers for toddlers to street dance and musical theatre.

If you’re searching for things to do in Bukit Timah, kids’ ballet classes near Beauty World, K-pop dance lessons, hip-hop for teens, adult beginner ballet, ballroom dance or couples’ dance classes, there are several real choices—but they work differently. Some studios sell a single trial class; others enrol by the school term, age and level. Some prepare children for recognised graded examinations, while others offer recreational choreography, adult social dance or private wedding lessons. Bukit Timah Community Club also publishes 2026 adult line, social, folk, belly-dance and ballroom courses through onePA.

The easiest way to choose: for a child who wants K-pop or hip-hop, investigate Joyful Steps & Rhythm first. For an adult trying a one-off introductory movement class, Aure publishes a S$15 first trial for eligible open-group and kids classes. For a child interested in varied dance and performing arts, All That Jazz has a S$40 trial including GST on its current registration form. For adult social dancing at a community-club price, investigate onePA’s courses at 20 Toh Yi Drive. For focused Chinese dance, the current We Chinese Dancetech base is at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre #16-01.

A particularly important 2026 location correction: Dancepointe Academy at Bukit V Mall, 9 Jalan Anak Bukit, #01-46/47 is advertised as opening in Q1 2027. It should not be listed as an operating Bukit Timah studio or a confirmed class for October 2026. Its existing Bukit Panjang branch at Hillion Mall is separate. This guide distinguishes open now from coming later, and gives addresses, age bands, trial fees, class formats, equipment, registration, safety and sensible local itineraries.

  • Current adult beginner-friendly social dance: onePA’s 21 October–9 December 2026 eight-session courses, on Wednesdays 6.45–7.45pm or 8–9pm, with published S$65–S$70 prices, subject to registration.
  • Latin cha-cha and jive at the CC: Ballroom Latin Elementary, from 1 November–27 December 2026, eight Sunday sessions, S$125–S$130, with booking subject to availability.
  • Adult line dance and recreational folk dance: the CC publishes 2026 courses including 30 October–15 January line dance and 3 November–5 January folk dance, with separate fees and difficulty levels.
  • Future dance studio, not open in October 2026: Dancepointe Academy at Bukit V Mall currently advertises Q1 2027 opening. Enquiries may be accepted before opening, but do not travel expecting an operating classroom.

A published studio address and class menu are not confirmation of a particular date, unfilled place or current price. For a scheduled lesson, check the provider’s live timetable and wait for confirmation before travelling.

Contents: find the right dancing experience

1. Which type of dance should you learn in Bukit Timah?

The first decision is not which studio has the most impressive photograph. It is whether the participant wants classical technique, popular choreography, social dancing, cultural expression or a structured performing-arts curriculum.

Classical ballet focuses on placement, movement quality, coordination and progressively demanding technique. A young child may begin with creative movement rather than formal graded examination work. An adult can start ballet without having attended classes as a child; several studios offer beginner programmes.

K-pop and hip-hop have a different appeal. Children may enjoy learning choreography to familiar music, while older students may want to build rhythmic accuracy, musicality, freestyle awareness or performance technique. A dance studio’s advertised K-pop class is normally an instructor-led programme, not a guarantee of learning one particular artist’s full choreography on the chosen date.

Jazz and contemporary dance offer further movement languages. Jazz can emphasise rhythm, technique and choreographic sequences, while contemporary classes may explore floor work, weight, balance and expressive movement. Their exact content depends on the teacher and age group.

Latin and Standard ballroom includes dances such as cha-cha, jive, rumba, samba and waltz. A social adult class may teach steps and partnered movement for enjoyment, while competitive DanceSport uses a more formal training pathway. A learner interested in a wedding dance may instead benefit from private coaching designed around a chosen song and a realistic number of lessons.

Chinese cultural dance includes distinct ethnic and folk traditions, expressive movement, technique and sometimes graded examinations or performance training. It is not interchangeable with a K-pop dance cover just because both are performed to music.

Three questions make choosing easier

Ask: What music and movement does the student enjoy? Do they want to try one lesson or attend every week? Is the aim recreational enjoyment, a performance or serious graded training?

A child who wants to dance with friends may enjoy a pop choreography group. Another who asks about ballet examinations might need a structured syllabus and appropriately qualified teachers. An adult returning after twenty years may prefer a gentle beginner class rather than joining a teenage performance programme.

You do not need to decide on a long-term pathway before attending a suitable trial. A good first lesson provides information about the studio, instructor and participant’s interest.

2. Beauty World has multiple studios in different buildings

Beauty World MRT (DT5) serves the main commercial cluster for several Bukit Timah dance schools. But the studios are not all in one mall.

Joyful Steps & Rhythm operates inside Beauty World Centre at 144 Upper Bukit Timah Road #03-29/30. Aure Studios is in Bukit Timah Shopping Centre at 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road #08-01. We Chinese Dancetech is also in Bukit Timah Shopping Centre but on Level 16 at #16-01. Lumi Dance Academy is in JK Building, 52A Jalan Jurong Kechil, Level 2.

These four locations have different routes, lift or staircase arrangements and pickup points. A family should share the actual street and unit, not the instruction to meet at "Beauty World dance class".

Beauty World Centre versus Bukit Timah Shopping Centre

Beauty World Centre and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre are separate older commercial developments. Their names are easy to confuse with Beauty World Plaza and Bukit Timah Plaza, which are other buildings nearby.

A studio on Level 16 is very different from an outlet on a second-floor side street. Leave enough time to locate the correct entrance, especially for a first trial or an early-childhood class with a punctual start.

Don’t confuse a future mall with an operating studio

A new development branded Bukit V Mall is advertised at 9 Jalan Anak Bukit, and Dancepointe Academy has announced plans for a Bukit Timah branch there. Its official page says opening in Q1 2027, not October 2026.

A search result that already contains a studio page and unit number is not proof that teachers are taking classes onsite today. Confirm the actual opening before treating it as a current option.

Which location is most convenient?

If you live near Beauty World, Joyful Steps, Aure, Lumi and We Chinese Dancetech are useful to compare. If you live nearer King Albert Park, consider All That Jazz at Dunearn Village. If you live near Holland Road, BarreWorks’ Jelita studio may be a more natural journey.

The best school is not necessarily the one with the shortest distance, but travel matters when a child attends weekly or an adult wants a sustainable evening routine.

3. Joyful Steps & Rhythm: K-pop and hip-hop at Beauty World Centre

Joyful Steps & Rhythm has its main Bukit Timah studio at Beauty World Centre, 144 Upper Bukit Timah Road #03-29/30, Singapore 588177. Its official site advertises hip-hop and K-pop programmes with specific children’s age bands, alongside ballet, jazz, contemporary and adult dance.

For a family searching K-pop classes near Beauty World, this is one of the most direct, verifiable options in the neighbourhood.

K-pop age groups

The operator’s K-pop programme page lists:

  • K-pop Juniors: ages 5–9.
  • K-pop Kids: ages 10–12.

The description presents the classes as instructor-led choreography and movement sessions suitable for young fans of popular Korean music, with age-adjusted expectations.

A K-pop class need not be a professional idol audition. For many children, the fun lies in learning sequences, understanding counts and keeping time with friends. If the child wants a particular song or performance, ask the teacher whether that material is currently being taught.

Hip-hop age groups

The same official page lists Hip-Hop Juniors ages 4–8, Hip-Hop Kids ages 9–12, and Hip-Hop Teens/Adults from age 13 at an introductory level.

These are different categories, and a parent should not assume a four-year-old joins the same class as a fifteen-year-old just because both programmes carry the hip-hop label.

If the child already has dance experience, ask about progression and the appropriate level. Age is useful, but confidence and previous training can influence class placement.

What happens in a first hip-hop lesson?

The instructor may introduce rhythm, counts, basic footwork, coordination and a short choreographed sequence. A complete beginner need not already know every move from a viral dance challenge.

Help the child understand that getting a movement wrong is part of learning. An enjoyable trial can focus on participating, listening and trying again, rather than a polished performance at the end of one hour.

Is the timetable live?

The school publishes separate Beauty World children and adult/teen schedule views. They are more useful than an undated social-media reel when planning a class.

The current public web page does not establish one universal trial price across every style. Ask the school for the actual trial, enrollment and term fees rather than borrowing a price from a competitor.

4. Joyful Steps & Rhythm: ballet, jazz, contemporary and adult programmes

Beyond K-pop and hip-hop, Joyful Steps & Rhythm advertises children’s classical ballet, Royal Academy of Dance examination-related activity, adult ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and Chinese cultural dance.

This matters because one family may have siblings with different interests. A ballet student can explore graded technique while another sibling enjoys pop choreography, subject to class age and timetable.

Ballet can be recreational or syllabus-based

Classical ballet lessons introduce placement, musicality and technique, with more demanding levels developing through practice. A school participating in RAD examination activities is not promising that every child automatically qualifies for every grade.

Ask the instructor how students are placed, whether assessments or exams are optional and how much practice is expected between lessons. A child can enjoy ballet without immediately committing to a competitive pathway.

Jazz and lyrical classes

The school describes lyrical dance as combining ballet and jazz-based movement with expression, without the need for standard pointe work. Adult jazz is framed as suitable for beginners and people returning to dance.

For someone who likes modern music but not necessarily K-pop, jazz or lyrical may be a good alternative. The pace and choreography depend on the teacher and term.

Contemporary dance

Its contemporary programme emphasises movement, expression, falling and recovering, body strength and coordination. Some classes develop a short sequence over the term.

A person curious about contemporary dance should ask whether previous ballet training is needed for a particular level. The term contemporary is broad, and one school’s beginner class can differ substantially from another’s advanced performance course.

Adult Chinese cultural dance

The school also advertises adult Chinese cultural dance, with emphasis on expressive and traditional movement forms. This is distinct from the specialist Chinese ethnic folk dance pathways offered by We Chinese Dancetech elsewhere in the district.

If you want a specific cultural tradition or examination pathway, ask about the actual curriculum rather than assuming the two schools teach the same level or repertoire.

5. Aure Studios: Latin, ballroom, pop dance and adult ballet

Aure Studios is at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre #08-01, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 588179. The studio offers a broad mix of Latin and Standard ballroom, salsa, hip-hop, pop choreography, adult beginner ballet, social dance and fitness-related movement.

The operator advertises a supportive studio environment with mirrors and specialised dance flooring. That is useful context, but the right class still depends on the genre and level.

Children’s DanceSport and Pop Danz

The studio runs Kids Dancesport Basics, introducing young people to competitive-style Latin and ballroom movements, along with Kids Pop Danz, which draws on energetic commercial choreography.

Older participants may investigate Intermediate Teens Dancesport for ages 8–16, with the operator identifying the programme as a more advanced option. A student new to ballroom should not be placed in an intermediate competitive group solely because they fall within the age range.

Adults who want to learn ballroom

Aure’s class catalogue includes Rumba, Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Paso Doble and Ballroom Waltz. Different dances emphasise different rhythms, footwork and partnered movement.

A total beginner might start with an introductory social or Latin class. An experienced dancer may prefer technical work or private DanceSport coaching. Ask about what the session will cover rather than assuming all Latin classes teach every named dance in one evening.

Salsa and partner work

The studio lists Salsa and a separate Salsa Partner-Work format. If you’re attending alone, ask whether a partner is required for the particular product. Some social dance formats rotate partners, while others ask each participant to bring someone.

An adult date or wedding-preparation couple may prefer a private lesson with agreed music and a specific goal. A group-class booking is not automatically a private wedding choreography session.

Hip-hop and adult beginner ballet

Aure lists Lyrical Hip-Hop, Contemporary Basics, Pop Dance and Adult Ballet, with beginner adult ballet specifically described as suitable for people without previous dance training.

That offers a different route into the studio than competitive ballroom. An adult who has never danced may appreciate a structured trial without committing to a performance or examination.

See Aure Studios Dance Classes, Kids DanceSport and Pop Danz and Official Studio Site.

6. Aure’s S$15 trial and multi-class plans: compare the real cost

Aure Studios’ official homepage publishes a S$15 first trial class for open group and kids classes. That is a useful starting price for someone who wants to try a genre before buying a longer package.

Its current public offering also describes four classes for S$110, ten classes for S$250, and larger credit packages. The exact validity and eligibility depend on the product, so review checkout conditions before purchasing.

What does the S$15 trial include?

It is advertised as a first-class trial for eligible products. It should not be assumed to include a private DanceSport lesson, a wedding choreography plan or an unlimited-day pass.

Select the intended class from the actual timetable and wait for confirmation. Ask whether that teacher and style are accepting newcomers at the chosen time.

Is a four-class pack better than a single class?

Only if you can use it. A term schedule may fit a weekly dancer, while a visitor in Singapore for a short period may prefer a single paid class.

Consider the credit validity, whether different class genres share credits and the process for cancellation or moving a booking. A discounted per-class amount can be wasted if several credits expire unused.

What if the participant wants competition training?

Aure advertises competitive Latin and Standard DanceSport coaching, but the trial package does not establish the cost of private training, costumes, competitions or examinations.

A family considering that path should request the full picture: coaching frequency, shoes, practice facilities, potential travel and related costs. A hobby-level introduction can be enjoyable without those commitments.

Booking and punctuality

The brand publishes its schedule and FAQs online, including cancellation and attendance rules. A booking form is not an automatic promise of a place. Arrive early enough to check in and find the eighth-floor unit.

Use the official Aure Studios homepage and FAQs for the latest offer.

7. Lumi Dance Academy: classical ballet and adult Ballet Bloom

Lumi Dance Academy is at JK Building, Level 2, 52A Jalan Jurong Kechil, Singapore 598582, in the Beauty World area. It describes a school focused on classical ballet, with contemporary-dance opportunities and development pathways.

Its current site also advertises Ballet Bloom, an adult ballet programme designed for people who are beginning for the first time or returning to class after a long break.

What makes Ballet Bloom interesting?

The operator describes a supportive, non-judgemental introduction with no prior dance experience needed. That can appeal to an adult who always liked ballet but never had the opportunity to study it.

A beginner may work on elementary positions, musicality, coordination and movement quality. Progress should be measured by what the participant can understand and practise safely, not by a promise of perfect form after a single lesson.

Children’s ballet and graded progression

Lumi advertises structured ballet training and refers to examination and performance opportunities. The exact age levels and class times need to be confirmed with the school, particularly when a child has experience at another academy.

An appropriate placement assessment is more useful than putting a child into a grade solely because of the child’s school year. Ballet levels and primary-school classes are not always aligned.

Contemporary training

The school also highlights a Rambert Grades Contemporary Programme. This is distinct from ballet training, even though dancers can develop useful coordination and movement awareness across both.

A student interested in contemporary dance should ask whether the class is a beginner creative session or a syllabus-based progression with greater technical expectations.

Does the school publish a universal S$15 trial?

No verified official universal trial amount for Lumi was established in the sources checked here. Do not copy Aure’s S$15 trial into Lumi’s listing. Ask Lumi for its current trial, class duration, term fees and attire.

The operator also offers performance and masterclass opportunities, but a promotional photo of a performance does not prove an individual child has been accepted into that event.

8. All That Jazz at Dunearn Village: ballet, jazz, street and musical theatre

All That Jazz Dance Academy operates a current Dunearn Village branch at 896 Dunearn Road, #02-11, Singapore 589472, near the wider King Albert Park MRT area.

The provider advertises training for ages two to eighteen, including Little Movers, Ballet & Jazz, Street Dance, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Tap and Acro.

That makes it one of the broader performing-arts options in Bukit Timah, particularly for families who want to compare different disciplines within a structured school.

Little Movers: ages two to six

The Little Movers pathway begins with creative movement for toddlers and preschoolers. Its Family Fun Creative Movement class for ages two to three involves parent participation.

Older early-childhood levels include:

  • Twinkle Tots: ages three to four.
  • Twinkle Stars: ages four to five.
  • Mini Ballet & Jazz: ages five to six.

These are different learning environments. A two-year-old with a parent is not being asked to follow the same independent class routine as a six-year-old.

Ballet and jazz syllabi

All That Jazz describes curriculum links with ISTD Ballet and ADAPT Jazz, with progression and possible graded assessments where appropriate.

For a parent interested in formal technique, ask which syllabus is taught in the actual branch and whether the child is at the right stage for assessment. A studio using a recognised syllabus is not a guarantee of admission to a particular school or a competition result.

Street dance and musical theatre

The school advertises hip-hop and other street styles, alongside musical theatre that combines singing, acting and dancing.

Musical theatre can be a distinctive option for children who enjoy character, storytelling and performing, not just executing dance steps. It differs from an ordinary singing lesson because performance, dialogue and movement are all part of the programme.

Is it a casual one-day activity?

The academy’s main model is structured dance education rather than a permanent open play area. A trial can help you decide whether the weekly programme fits. If you’re searching for a single party workshop, ask about a specific event format rather than assuming every class accepts casual drop-ins.

9. All That Jazz: the current S$40 trial and term commitments

All That Jazz’s official trial registration form currently states S$40 including GST. It asks for the student’s age, dance experience, preferred location and programme.

The form also says the trial payment is non-refundable if the family cancels or fails to attend the initially booked or rescheduled trial. These conditions matter more than simply comparing S$40 with another studio’s S$15 headline.

Why a trial is useful

A well-chosen trial lets you see whether the child understands the instructions, enjoys the class and feels comfortable in that group. It also gives the teacher a chance to suggest the right level.

A child may like the music but not the particular dance genre. That’s useful information. An initial trial need not become a long-term commitment unless everybody wants it.

What should parents ask?

Ask about the weekly timetable, class duration, fees, uniforms, makeup lessons, exams, performance expectations and any compulsory additional costs.

The operator’s early-childhood materials say that from Twinkle Tots onward classes are often independent drop-off sessions. A child who expects the parent to stay throughout may need preparation or a parent-participation alternative.

Longer-term value versus one-off flexibility

A structured syllabus can be a good choice for a student who enjoys regular practice. But the family needs to be able to make weekly attendance, especially during school terms and examination periods.

If the child only wants to learn a short K-pop sequence once, a studio specialising in casual open group classes may be a better fit than a serious progressive programme.

10. We Chinese Dancetech: Chinese folk dance at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre

We Chinese Dancetech (舞忆工作室) lists its main Bukit Timah location at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road #16-01.

The operator specialises in Chinese ethnic and folk dance, with children’s Chinese Ethnic Folk Dance Grade Examination pathways, adult Chinese classical body movement and opportunities for performances, private training and choreography.

This is a more focused choice than a general K-pop or Latin group class, particularly for families interested in traditional Chinese dance technique and cultural expression.

What is the children’s examination programme?

The school describes structured levels for Chinese folk dance training. An examination-based course can provide a sequence of skills and repertoire, but the appropriate starting grade depends on the child’s experience and the teacher’s assessment.

A child may begin because they enjoy the stories, costumes and movement, not because an examination is the only legitimate goal. Ask whether the class is recreational, examination-oriented or intended for competition.

Adult Chinese body movement

The brand also advertises adult Chinese movement and repertoire. Adults who want to reconnect with a cultural dance form may prefer a beginner class focused on posture, expression and coordinated movement.

Do not assume all adult programmes have the same intensity or technical requirements. Ask about the current session and whether prior experience is required.

A useful price caution

The operator’s booking page contains a Chinese Folk Dance Grade 3 product displaying S$250. The page does not establish that this is the price of every class, one private lesson or a complete studio-wide term.

Only quote it in connection with the actual Grade 3 product, and check the final schedule and what the booking covers before purchasing.

More than one venue may appear on the site

Some older or specialised We Chinese Dancetech pages reference other Singapore locations for private or supplementary sessions. The official contact page identifies Bukit Timah Shopping Centre #16-01 as the current main location.

If you are enrolling in a particular supplementary class, wait for the confirmation to identify which site is actually hosting it. Do not infer location solely from the company’s base address.

11. BarreWorks at Jelita Mall: a nearby ballet alternative, not Beauty World

BarreWorks Dance Studio is at Jelita Mall, 293 Holland Road #02-03, Singapore 278628. It is a useful nearby Holland Road alternative for families around the Bukit Timah and Holland districts, but it should not be listed as a dance studio inside Beauty World Centre.

The academy focuses strongly on classical ballet, including young children’s classes, Royal Academy of Dance syllabus lessons, open adult ballet, contemporary, jazz and ballet conditioning.

Adult ballet without a childhood background

BarreWorks advertises Adult Ballet Beginner/Elementary open classes for adults with or without previous ballet experience. That may be appealing to someone who has wanted to try ballet for many years.

The studio also offers pointe foundations and advanced pointe classes. However, pointe work must not be treated as the beginner’s default. The school says readiness is assessed according to strength and physical development.

What about children?

The programme includes baby ballet and RAD progression. Parents should discuss whether the child wants recreational movement or a long-term graded pathway, and ask how the school places new students.

The presence of an examination syllabus doesn’t mean every child is immediately registered for an exam or expected to dance en pointe.

Current 2026 term notice

BarreWorks’ official 2026 schedule lists a 15 November 2026 concert, with 13–14 November full-dress rehearsals, and no ordinary classes on 13, 14 or 15 November. It also lists a break 14 December 2026–1 January 2027.

This matters when booking a trial in November. A generic weekly class timetable may not apply during rehearsal or concert dates.

Getting there

The operator lists Holland Village MRT as its nearest station reference and Jelita Mall on Holland Road as the location. Use a current journey planner; it is not a short internal connection from Beauty World MRT.

12. Bukit Timah Community Club: social and line dancing for adults

A commercial studio is not the only way to learn dance. Bukit Timah Community Club, at 20 Toh Yi Drive, Singapore 596569, publishes adult programmes in social dance, line dance, ballroom, folk dance and belly dance through the People’s Association’s onePA system.

These courses may be appealing for adults who want a routine activity, practical steps and an opportunity to meet other residents. They generally work differently from a single casual private-studio trial because you register for a named multi-session course.

Social Dance Elementary: two October–December times

The onePA listings show Social Dance (Adult) Elementary, running Wednesday 21 October–9 December 2026, for eight one-hour sessions. Two separate time windows appear:

  • 6.45pm–7.45pm.
  • 8pm–9pm.

Both publish S$65–S$70 price ranges, subject to eligible membership and checkout charges. The description covers cha-cha, disco rock, rock-and-roll and waltz, with the basic course aimed at adults learning social dance.

Some sessions are described as ongoing; an instructor may ask new participants to enquire first. Importantly, registration closes on 21 October 2026, the date of this guide. That is not a promise that new enrolment will remain open tomorrow.

Line Dance Elementary: from 30 October

The CC also advertises Line Dance (Adult) Elementary running Friday 30 October 2026–15 January 2027, over ten sessions from 4.30pm–6.15pm, at S$65–S$70 under the published category.

Another ongoing course, starting earlier in the month, may have already closed for registration. Choose the actual future or currently available onePA listing instead of copying an old start date.

Who would enjoy a community-club dance course?

An adult who wants to learn steps progressively and attend weekly may appreciate this format. Someone interested in meeting others may value the social routine as much as the movement.

A person searching for a private first-dance wedding lesson will probably want a different service. A CC course is not an automatically private coaching booking.

Why prices differ from studios

A multi-session community course has a different cost structure from a single S$15 commercial trial. Compare the total number of sessions, teaching level, materials or shoes, travel and eligibility.

Check the actual onePA checkout, not a generic claim that all CC classes are free or cost the same.

Official Bukit Timah Community Club, Social Dance 6.45pm, Social Dance 8pm and Line Dance Elementary.

13. Newer November–December CC courses: ballroom Latin and folk dance

For people looking for courses that begin after 21 October, onePA currently lists several Bukit Timah CC sessions starting in late October or early November. Actual seats and the applicable rate remain dependent on live registration.

Ballroom Latin Elementary: 1 November to 27 December

The course lists eight Sunday sessions from 4.30pm–5.30pm, between 1 November and 27 December 2026, with a published price range of S$125–S$130.

Its notes describe beginner Latin jive and cha-cha, welcoming beginners. A 8 November public-holiday break appears in the course information, so the date span should not be read as nine uninterrupted Sundays.

This is a practical choice for an adult interested in Latin dance but not yet sure about private competition coaching.

Ballroom Modern Intermediate: the same Sunday period

A separate course lists Ballroom Modern Intermediate, with eight Sunday sessions at 5.30pm–6.30pm, covering movement ideas from waltz, foxtrot, tango and related Standard ballroom dance.

The published price is also S$125–S$130. Although the course label is intermediate, its remarks say beginners are welcome under the trainer’s arrangements. Ask which actual level is appropriate, instead of assuming the title tells the whole story.

Recreational Folk Dance Intermediate: 3 November start

The onePA page lists Recreational Folk Dance Intermediate from Tuesday 3 November 2026 to 5 January 2027, with ten sessions 11am–1pm and S$45–S$50 as the published course rate.

The activity involves choreographed steps drawn from traditional folk dance styles. The label intermediate matters: someone with no prior dancing may prefer to speak to the trainer about an elementary group instead.

Belly Dance: a course already under way

The CC also shows a Belly Dance Intermediate course from 16 October to 20 November 2026, six sessions at 10.30am–12pm, priced S$100–S$105. Its normal registration date has already passed by 21 October.

The class is evidence of an existing programme, not a currently guaranteed new-student opening. A person interested in later sessions should ask the CC about future dates.

Checking onePA carefully

onePA pages often remain visible after registration closes and may show a Book Now element until eligibility is checked. The useful distinction is course existence versus remaining capacity and acceptance.

For the current next options, see Ballroom Latin Elementary, Ballroom Modern Intermediate and Recreational Folk Dance Intermediate.

14. Dancepointe at Bukit V Mall: a future 2027 branch, not a current dance lesson

It is tempting to add every newly announced studio to a "best dance classes in Bukit Timah" list. But the opening status matters.

Dancepointe Academy currently advertises a Bukit Timah / Bukit V Mall branch at 9 Jalan Anak Bukit, #01-46/47, Singapore 589603, with opening planned for Q1 2027.

The operator lists genres including ballet, hip-hop, K-pop, jazz and contemporary under its network, but that is not proof an instructor is teaching at the new Bukit V unit in October 2026.

Can you enquire ahead of opening?

The official branch page provides an enquiry contact, so you may ask about planned admissions and updates. But do not treat an enquiry as a confirmed 2026 course, and do not arrange a trial at a venue that hasn’t opened.

What about Dancepointe’s existing Bukit Panjang branch?

Dancepointe has an operating branch in Hillion Mall, Bukit Panjang, which is a different location. A class there may be available now, but it should not be presented as a currently open Bukit Timah unit.

A parent can compare the existing Bukit Panjang studio if the travel suits the household, or wait for the new Bukit V branch to open before considering the local option.

Why this correction matters

A current page with a full address can appear in search long before a retail unit is ready. A visitor guide should check whether the language is opening soon, proposed or operating now.

This article is deliberately clear: the new Bukit V dance branch is a future plan as of 21 October 2026.

15. Dance classes for toddlers and preschoolers

A young child’s first dance activity can be a joyful introduction to rhythm and movement. It should not be a scaled-down adult competition session.

For ages two to three, All That Jazz’s Family Fun Creative Movement is a parent-participation format. It includes playful movement and shared experience rather than asking the toddler to manage a long independent class.

From ages three to four, the same academy’s Twinkle Tots introduces ballet and jazz foundations. Joyful Steps also advertises children’s ballet and other age-based programmes; Lumi offers a more focused ballet environment.

The parent-stays versus drop-off distinction

Not every dance class permits parents to remain inside throughout. All That Jazz explains that its Twinkle Tots and older classes generally progress into independent drop-off sessions.

A child who has never attended a group class without a parent may need preparation. Ask the studio about its arrival, handover and observation rules before the first day.

Clothing should support movement

Young children should wear the clothing and footwear required by the instructor. For one trial, a provider may allow simpler suitable attire; a term-long syllabus programme may require a uniform and proper dance shoes.

Don’t buy an expensive full set of costumes or pointe shoes before the school has assessed the child. Ask what is necessary for the actual introductory level.

What is a useful first-lesson outcome?

A child may follow a few counts, learn where to stand, enjoy moving with music or simply become comfortable in the studio. Those are real starting points.

Avoid comparing the child immediately with older dancers in professional online videos. A warm introduction that builds interest can be more valuable than pressure to perform.

16. Primary-school dance: ballet, K-pop, hip-hop or cultural dance?

Primary-school children can have very different tastes. One may love classical ballet; another wants K-pop; another enjoys creative theatre; another is curious about Chinese dance or ballroom.

Joyful Steps has explicit K-pop bands for ages five to nine and ten to twelve, and hip-hop bands for four to eight and nine to twelve. Aure offers Kids Pop Danz and Kids Dancesport. All That Jazz offers ballet, jazz, street dance and musical theatre, while We Chinese Dancetech offers Chinese ethnic and folk dance pathways.

The practical choice is to let the child try a suitable format and notice what genuinely engages them.

Should you choose graded ballet?

A graded ballet pathway can support progress in technique over time, particularly for a child who likes structured practice. It involves training, potentially exams, and a greater commitment as difficulty increases.

But a child’s enjoyment of movement can exist without sitting an exam. Ask whether formal exams are optional and whether the studio offers recreational classes.

Is K-pop only about copying a video?

A well-taught class can go beyond copying a routine by introducing rhythm, counts, body control, memory and performance awareness.

A child might arrive because they enjoy one pop group but leave with a better understanding of how sequences fit together. That is a useful outcome even when a particular song is not covered in the term.

Cultural dance can support a different kind of learning

Chinese folk and cultural dance can introduce movement traditions and expressive repertoire that connect with heritage. Ask whether the syllabus includes specific ethnic styles, a grade system or performances.

Avoid making the child feel that a cultural dance programme exists only for examinations or competition results. Interest and participation matter.

Fit lessons around family life

A weekly class involves travel, schoolwork, rest and sometimes performances. One enjoyable trial can become a sustainable activity if the routine works for the child and household.

An overfull weekend can turn even a good class into something a child dreads. Choose a timetable that remains manageable during school terms.

17. Teens: K-pop, hip-hop, contemporary and musical theatre

Older students may enjoy dance as a social activity, physical challenge or expressive art form. The Bukit Timah area provides both recreational choreography and more technical training.

Joyful Steps’ hip-hop teens/adults 13+ is presented as an introductory pathway. Aure offers Lyrical Hip-Hop, Pop Dance, Contemporary Basics and a more advanced teen DanceSport 8–16 group.

All That Jazz offers street dance, musical theatre, contemporary and other disciplines, subject to class level and branch timetable.

A good beginner pathway for a teen

A teen with no prior dance training should not automatically enrol in an advanced group because of age. A structured beginner hip-hop or pop-choreography session can be an excellent introduction.

The first goal may be learning counts, following a sequence and becoming comfortable with group instruction. After that, the student can explore more challenging combinations.

Stage performance isn’t compulsory

A studio may organise recitals or competitions, but the family should ask whether participation is optional, how many rehearsals are needed and what extra costs apply.

A student may love dancing yet prefer not to perform publicly. That doesn’t make the activity invalid.

Musical theatre combines disciplines

All That Jazz’s musical theatre route blends acting, dance and singing. It can appeal to students interested in storytelling, stage presence and character.

The programme uses different skills from a pure K-pop session. The correct choice depends on whether the student prefers choreography alone or a broader performing-arts experience.

Dance and school commitments

Dance can be a meaningful hobby throughout secondary school, but rehearsals and performance periods may become intense. Set realistic expectations about travel, class frequency and the school calendar.

A manageable practice can be more successful than a heavy commitment made purely because it sounds prestigious.

18. Adults: ballet, salsa, ballroom, social dance and beginner confidence

Adult beginners often imagine dance studios are for children who began lessons years ago. Several providers here explicitly welcome adults who are starting from zero or returning after a break.

Lumi’s Ballet Bloom, Aure’s Adult Ballet, BarreWorks Adult Beginner/Elementary and Joyful Steps’ adult jazz or ballet are suitable programmes to investigate. The exact level and enrolment availability require checking.

For partner and social dance, Aure offers Latin and ballroom while Bukit Timah CC has dated social dance, Latin, ballroom and line-dance programmes.

You don’t have to dance perfectly at the first lesson

An adult trial is meant to introduce a format and help you judge whether you enjoy it. The instructor may teach basic posture, foot positions, timing and a short routine.

It is reasonable to feel unfamiliar with the movements. Good teaching should give understandable instructions and space to practise.

Do you need a partner?

Some ballroom, salsa and social dance classes are partner-oriented, while other classes include solo work or rotate arrangements. Confirm the policy for the particular session.

A studio can offer couples’ coaching, but a group ballroom class is not necessarily designed around an individual couple’s wedding music.

Social dance versus competitive DanceSport

Social dance primarily helps participants learn steps and enjoy dancing with other people. Competitive DanceSport can involve more technical coaching, practice and costs.

Choose the commitment appropriate to your goals. An adult looking for exercise and enjoyment does not need an intensive competition schedule.

What about older adults?

A line-dance or folk-dance course may appeal to people who enjoy a group routine. However, individual fitness and mobility vary. A studio should be able to explain the class’s pace and floor demands so the person can choose appropriately.

Do not assume a course is suitable or unsuitable based on age alone. Match it to experience, physical ability and preference.

19. Dance, yoga, barre and Pilates are related but different

Some Bukit Timah studios advertise dance alongside yoga, barre conditioning or Pilates. These activities can share movement concepts, but they are not interchangeable.

A dance class may focus on technique, music, choreography and expressive performance. A barre conditioning session may use ballet-inspired exercises for fitness without teaching a complete ballet syllabus. Pilates may involve mats or reformer equipment, while yoga has its own postural and breathing traditions.

Someone wanting to learn the waltz should book ballroom training rather than assume that a Pilates reformer workout includes dance steps.

Don’t use a dance name to infer intensity

An adult beginner ballet class can feel quite demanding even when the pace is careful. Hip-hop may involve repeated jumps and fast directional changes. A line-dance programme may be less technically complex but still require sustained movement.

Ask about the actual class, not whether the label sounds gentle.

How do you build an appropriate routine?

Choose one primary activity first. If you later add conditioning or mobility work, make sure your schedule leaves time for rest and enjoyable practice.

You don’t need to take Pilates, ballet, K-pop and competitive Latin simultaneously to benefit from learning to move with music.

For fitness-focused options, see Things to Do In Bukit Timah | Yoga, Reformer Pilates, Spas and Wellness and Swimming, Badminton, Tennis and Fitness Activities.

20. Costs: a S$15 trial is not the full price of learning dance

Published introductory prices are helpful, but they are only one part of the decision.

Aure Studios lists a S$15 first trial for eligible group and kids classes. All That Jazz lists a S$40 trial including GST. We Chinese Dancetech shows a S$250 Grade 3 folk-dance product, but that is not a universal lesson rate.

Bukit Timah CC lists multiple course products, such as eight-session Social Dance at S$65–S$70, ten-session line dance at S$65–S$70 and eight-session ballroom Latin at S$125–S$130. Their exact booking eligibility and date windows differ.

For Joyful Steps, Lumi and BarreWorks, this guide does not assign a made-up universal trial fee. Enquire with the actual studio.

What can add to the total?

  • A uniform, ballet shoes, tap shoes or other required footwear.
  • Registration or annual fees for regular school programmes.
  • Examination or assessment fees, when the student elects or is recommended to participate.
  • Recital, rehearsal, competition or costume costs where applicable.
  • Private coaching in addition to ordinary group lessons.
  • Transport and parking for repeated weekly classes.
  • Missed lesson, cancellation and package-expiry rules.

A low trial fee can be a very good opportunity to try something. It should not be described as the full cost of a year of dance education.

Comparing an eight-session CC course with a single studio trial

A public course fee may look small when divided by sessions, but the participant has to attend a fixed course at the listed time. A studio trial may offer flexibility without the expectation of continuing.

Choose based on the intended use. A person travelling abroad in two weeks shouldn’t buy a ten-week course solely because the per-class average is low.

The dance studio may not need to be the most expensive

Good fit matters: age-appropriate instruction, an understandable curriculum, a safe studio floor, manageable class size, reasonable travel and a teacher the student understands.

Brand prestige or a dramatic competition image alone cannot establish those things. Use a suitable trial and ask practical questions.

21. How to book a dance trial and what to ask the teacher

A successful first experience begins with a booking for the correct branch, age and class level. Studio timetables can change around holidays, examinations, rehearsals and teacher availability.

Start with the official programme

Choose a named class rather than asking generically for "a dance lesson". A child interested in K-pop should be booked into the right K-pop age group, not a general adult fitness class.

At Joyful Steps, use the Beauty World children or adult/teen schedule. At Aure, select the class from the studio’s current booking platform. At All That Jazz, use its trial form and choose Dunearn Village as the preferred location.

Read the refund policy before paying

All That Jazz’s trial form explicitly states that its S$40 trial is non-refundable for cancelled or missed bookings. Other studios may have separate cancellation or reactivation fees.

Do not assume all trials can be moved without charge because they are introductory. If travel or illness makes your dates uncertain, check before purchase.

Ask about level placement

For a child previously enrolled elsewhere, share their actual experience rather than only the school grade. A ten-year-old who has never taken ballet and a ten-year-old with years of formal training need different classes.

Likewise, an adult who has danced recreationally may want a different starting point from someone who has never attended any movement class.

What should you wear?

Ask the instructor whether the first trial needs ballet slippers, clean trainers, socks, leotard or another specified item. Requirements differ between ballet, hip-hop, tap and ballroom.

Bring water and clothes that allow safe movement. Avoid purchasing pointe shoes or performance costumes without teacher guidance.

Confirm the meeting point

Share the exact building and floor. Beauty World Centre #03-29/30 and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre #08-01 are not the same place, even though both can be reached from Beauty World MRT.

Arrive a little early to find the studio and understand its check-in or parent waiting arrangements.

22. Safety and technique: what a beginner should know

Dance can be demanding even when it appears graceful or playful. Lessons may involve jumps, quick changes of direction, holds, repeated movements or unfamiliar footwear.

The right teacher introduces technique progressively and gives age-appropriate guidance. Students should follow instructions, warm up and avoid pushing through sharp pain.

Ballet and pointe shoes require special care

Pointe work involves dancing on the tips of specially constructed shoes. It is not a starting activity for beginners.

BarreWorks’ own pointe information describes readiness assessment based on strength and physical development before progressing. That is a useful principle for any ballet school: don’t purchase pointe shoes or encourage a child to try pointe independently to imitate a performance photograph.

Street dance and floor work

Hip-hop and contemporary can involve faster or lower movements. Ask what shoes and flooring are appropriate for the particular lesson. A studio may have shock-absorbing flooring, but accidents can still occur.

Students need enough space to move without collisions and should listen when the instructor sets up a formation or floor exercise.

Adults returning to movement

Someone who has not exercised regularly may benefit from a beginner-paced class and appropriate breaks. Avoid treating discomfort or dizziness as a sign of success.

If a person has a relevant health restriction, seek appropriate healthcare advice and discuss safe class suitability with the teacher. A dance-school description is not a medical assessment.

No class guarantees injury-free activity

Studios may offer safe equipment and trained instructors, but physical activity still has risk. Parents should read the school’s policies for supervision, insurance, emergency procedures and how the studio communicates with families.

A good venue should be able to explain its expectations clearly without promising impossible certainty.

23. Three practical Bukit Timah dance outings

These are suggested structures, not live class reservations. Choose the named programme, confirm its time and then add an optional meal or transport plan.

Plan A: a child’s K-pop or hip-hop trial near Beauty World

Best for: a child who enjoys pop music, choreography and dancing with peers.

Contact Joyful Steps & Rhythm about the correct K-pop ages 5–9 or 10–12 group, or the hip-hop 4–8 or 9–12 class. Confirm an available trial and the current fee.

Arrive at Beauty World Centre #03-29/30 from Beauty World MRT. Let the child participate, then discuss whether they enjoyed the instructor, music and learning pace.

Finish with a snack or meal nearby if desired. One trial is enough for a pleasant first outing.

Plan B: an adult beginner dance session

Best for: an adult who wants to try ballet, pop dance or ballroom without an immediate term commitment.

Consider Aure’s S$15 eligible trial in the class that interests you, or enquire about Lumi’s Ballet Bloom if classical ballet is the main goal.

Read the schedule, wear suitable clothing and arrive early enough to find the studio. Focus on learning the first movements without comparing yourself with long-time dancers.

Afterwards, return comfortably or enjoy a short café stop. Decide about a package only when you know whether you like the experience.

Plan C: an eight-week community ballroom course

Best for: an adult who wants regular social dancing and can attend the published dates.

Inspect the Bukit Timah CC onePA listing for the 1 November–27 December 2026 Ballroom Latin Elementary course. Verify that places remain available and the specific Sunday 4.30–5.30pm time.

Confirm the registration and any break dates. Travel to 20 Toh Yi Drive, not a commercial dance school in a shopping centre, and attend progressively over the course.

This is a more regular commitment than a one-off trial but can provide a consistent social routine.

24. MRT, transport and accessibility: the complete route matters

The dance studios are spread across several Bukit Timah transport clusters. The best MRT station depends on the actual booked school.

Beauty World MRT (DT5)

Use Beauty World for Joyful Steps at Beauty World Centre, Aure and We Chinese Dancetech at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, and Lumi at Jalan Jurong Kechil.

These venues are distinct. A mall with lifts does not prove that the last approach to every studio, changing room or lesson area is step-free. Ask about the exact studio floor and facilities when necessary.

King Albert Park MRT (DT6)

Use King Albert Park as the practical transport reference for Dunearn Village at 896 Dunearn Road, including All That Jazz #02-11.

Don’t confuse Dunearn Village with KAP Mall at 9 King Albert Park. They are different commercial developments. A class meeting at Dunearn Village cannot be found by wandering around the cinema at KAP Mall.

Holland Village for BarreWorks Jelita

The BarreWorks Jelita studio is on 293 Holland Road, with the operator describing Holland Village MRT as the nearest rail reference. It is a nearby alternative to Bukit Timah rather than a Beauty World MRT branch.

If the child attends weekly, check the transport and total travel time from home before committing.

Toh Yi Drive for Bukit Timah CC

The community club is at 20 Toh Yi Drive. Its counter-service hours are 10am–6pm, while an evening dance course may operate later. Don’t use counter hours as the class’s timetable.

Step-free needs

If the participant uses a wheelchair or has other access requirements, confirm the MRT exit, pedestrian crossing, building lift, studio entrance, toilet and actual activity format. The ability to enter a mall isn’t proof that a particular floor-work class is suitable.

Ask the instructor what adaptations or alternatives can be provided where appropriate rather than assuming the genre alone determines accessibility.

Beauty World Plaza and The LINQ buildings side by side in Bukit Timah
Beauty World Plaza and The LINQ are separate commercial buildings from Beauty World Centre and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. The photograph illustrates local wayfinding, not a dance school interior. eduKateSG, October 2026.

25. Performances, graded examinations and realistic expectations

Some families prefer recreational dance; others are interested in structured progression and perhaps examinations, recitals or competitions. Both directions can be rewarding when chosen deliberately.

All That Jazz advertises internationally recognised syllabi across certain programmes. Joyful Steps references RAD ballet examination activity. BarreWorks offers RAD syllabus classes, and We Chinese Dancetech teaches Chinese folk dance grading.

Aure offers competitive DanceSport as well as recreational classes. These pathways can require more practice and potential additional spending than a once-a-week casual session.

What does a grade mean?

A graded programme follows a sequence of technical expectations. The student may learn specified vocabulary and movement skills before taking an examination.

It does not automatically mean a child’s school or university will award admission points for the grade. If an operator discusses DSA or later educational applications, investigate the actual institution’s current admission rules rather than treating a certificate as a guaranteed outcome.

What about recitals?

A recital can be enjoyable for a student who likes performing, but it may require rehearsal attendance and costumes. Ask whether participating is optional, what the rehearsal calendar looks like and how expenses are handled.

A child may enjoy lessons without wanting to perform publicly every term. That preference deserves respect.

Building confidence is gradual

For one student, progress may mean remembering a short routine; for another, it may mean learning to move in time with music or feeling comfortable performing among peers.

A teacher can encourage development, but nobody should promise instant confidence or a professional dance career from one trial.

Not yet under the official schedule checked on 21 October 2026. Dancepointe advertises its Bukit V Mall branch opening in Q1 2027. The existing Bukit Panjang branch is a separate location.

Where will Dancepointe Bukit Timah be?

The official planned location is Bukit V Mall, 9 Jalan Anak Bukit, #01-46/47, close to Beauty World MRT. Confirm opening and classes before visiting.

Is ballet a good activity for a preschooler?

Age-appropriate creative movement and beginner ballet can be enjoyable when the class fits the child’s attention and comfort. All That Jazz offers early-childhood programmes, and other schools provide different beginning levels. Start with a suitable trial.

Does a child need to take ballet exams?

Not necessarily. Some studios offer recreational classes and graded programmes. Ask whether exams are optional and whether the child enjoys the learning structure.

Can children begin pointe work immediately?

No. Pointe work requires progressive training and teacher assessment of physical readiness. BarreWorks explicitly describes strength and development requirements for its pointe pathways.

Are dance classes suitable for shy children?

A supportive beginner group may help a child become more comfortable participating, but confidence develops differently for each person. Choose an instructor and level the child feels safe trying rather than expecting a guaranteed personality change.

Is K-pop dance suitable for boys?

Yes. Dance classes should be chosen according to interest and the provider’s programme rules, not gender stereotypes. Ask about the class environment, age and content.

Can I take a wedding dance lesson in Bukit Timah?

Aure offers ballroom and private dance coaching, making it a provider to enquire with about a first dance. Confirm availability, song, class format and the complete private-lesson price.

Are there casual one-off dance classes?

Aure publishes a first trial; All That Jazz publishes a paid trial. Other studios may arrange appropriate introductory sessions. A trial is not necessarily the same as open walk-in drop-in dancing every day.

What shoes should I wear for a dance trial?

Follow the particular teacher’s instructions. Ballet, hip-hop, Latin, tap and contemporary may require different footwear. Avoid buying pointe shoes or other specialist items before a qualified teacher recommends them.

Is dance the same as barre or Pilates fitness?

No. They can share coordination and strength work, but a dance class may teach music, technique and choreography while barre and Pilates programmes focus on different movement goals and equipment.

How much are regular dance lessons in Bukit Timah?

Fees vary by studio, duration and term. Verified examples include a S$15 Aure trial, S$40 All That Jazz trial and S$65–S$130 multi-session onePA courses. None is the universal weekly rate for every provider.

Can I watch my child’s entire dance class?

Not automatically. Some schools have independent drop-off classes and policies limiting observers. Ask whether parents may stay, observe through a window or wait outside.

How do I choose between a serious ballet school and a recreational class?

Ask whether the learner wants graded technique, examinations, recitals, social dancing or simply enjoyment. A studio should explain the pathway and total commitment before enrolment.

Is there a free dance class in Bukit Timah?

No general open-access free dance class has been established for these private venues. Some community events might offer free participation on particular dates, but don’t assume that a dance studio’s trial or a community-club course is free.

What if the studio’s timetable shows a full class?

Ask for another suitable time, a later term or a different class. Do not travel expecting admission because a general studio hours page says the building is open.

A good dance outing begins with one class you actually want to try

Bukit Timah offers a surprisingly broad range of dance learning: children’s K-pop and hip-hop near Beauty World, adult beginner ballet on Jalan Jurong Kechil, ballroom and Latin in Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, musical theatre near King Albert Park, Chinese cultural dance and affordable community-club social classes.

The most important step is not choosing the most famous name. It’s finding the style, age group, level and schedule that fits the person, checking the actual branch and making a confirmed trial or class booking.

You might discover a hobby you want to enjoy for years. Or you might simply have fun learning a short routine for an afternoon. Either way, the result is worthwhile when the experience suits the person rather than requiring them to fit a promotional promise.

Official studio, class and venue information

Checked 21 October 2026. The operating studio addresses, class types, age bands, selected trial prices and onePA course listings come from the providers’ current websites. None confirms a live space in an individual lesson. Timetables, teachers, fees and promotional opening dates can change. The original eduKateSG images show the actual labelled neighbourhood buildings and public routes, not studio interiors or dances attributed to unidentified children.
