Top 100 vocabulary for visiting and touring Da Lat
The examples are fictional learning scenes and general word explanations. A word such as frost, hail or heatwave is included to help you understand weather language; its presence does not say that it is typical of Da Lat. Clothing examples are discussion prompts, not a prescribed packing list. Check actual conditions, product information and visitor arrangements for your own trip.

Da Lat history and important visiting notes
A highland resort has a history, not just a nickname
Vietnam’s national tourism introduction places Da Lat in the Central Highlands and describes its past as a French summer getaway. “City of Eternal Spring” is a tourism nickname. Enjoy its imagery while checking the weather for the actual day you intend to visit. Read the official Da Lat introduction.
中文:越南国家旅游介绍将大叻列在中央高地,并说明它曾是法国人的夏季度假地。“永恒春天之城”是旅游昵称。欣赏这种意象,同时核对自己参观当天的天气。
The station’s dates describe different milestones
Vietnam News Agency dates the station’s construction to 1932–1938 and its national historic recognition to 2001. Its July 2024 report describes a later recognition as a tourist destination. These are separate events. The national tourism guide discusses a local route to Trại Mát; confirm today’s operation rather than assuming a through connection to the national railway. Read the railway history report.
中文:越南通讯社记载车站于1932至1938年建造,2001年获得国家历史遗址认可,2024年7月的报道则介绍较后的旅游景点认可。这些是不同事件。国家旅游指南提到通往Trại Mát的地方线路;今日运营应另行确认,不能假定它与全国铁路贯通。
Start a gentle observation exercise at Xuân Hương Lake
The national tourism introduction identifies Xuân Hương Lake as a focal point of Da Lat. Use the setting to describe clouds, daylight or a breeze. Write what you actually noticed, and keep an imagined scene clearly labelled. A pleasing description is stronger when its evidence is clear. Read the lake and landmark overview.
中文:国家旅游介绍将春香湖列为大叻的重要地点。可用这个场景描述云、日光或微风。写自己实际注意到的内容,想象场景则清楚注明。有证据的描写更可靠。
Read the Langbiang landscape before choosing an activity
The official destination feature names the Langbiang Plateau and discusses nearby mountain scenery and Datanla Waterfall. Landscape vocabulary helps you ask about terrain and the suitability of a proposed route. Confirm access, arrangements and conditions with the actual operator before including an activity. Read the highland destination feature.
中文:官方景点文章提到Langbiang高原、附近山景与Datanla瀑布。地形词汇帮助询问路线及其是否适合同伴。安排活动前,应向实际运营方核对通行、服务与条件。
Leave room for the community behind the coffee
The national tourism coffee feature tells a story of K’Ho growers and a family’s Arabica crop. A visit can prompt questions about a product and the people who make it. Confirm any farm visit directly; a tourism article does not guarantee a tour, demonstration or opening time. Read the coffee and community introduction.
中文:国家旅游咖啡文章介绍K’Ho种植者与一个家庭的阿拉比卡咖啡种植故事。参访可带来关于产品及生产者的问题。农场参观应直接确认,旅游文章不保证导览、示范或营业时间。
Keep temple history and visitor permission separate
The national tourism feature dates Linh Sơn Pagoda to 1940 and introduces Trúc Lâm Temple overlooking Tuyền Lâm Lake. Treat worship spaces respectfully and follow the venue’s actual visitor guidance. A historical description does not grant permission to enter every area or photograph every activity. Read the pagoda and temple account.
中文:国家旅游文章记载Linh Sơn寺始于1940年,并介绍眺望Tuyền Lâm湖的Trúc Lâm寺。尊重宗教场所,遵守实际参观指引。历史介绍不等于可以进入所有区域或拍摄所有活动。

B: Let’s ask whether it is suitable for everyone in our group.

中文:甲:标签写防泼水,表示完全防水吗?
乙:应读产品的限制,不能自行假定。
Six distinctions for clearer weather English and Chinese
Weather and climate answer different questions
Weather describes conditions at a particular time and place. Climate describes patterns over long periods. “A cool climate” does not establish tomorrow’s temperature. Chinese 天气 and 气候 preserve the same useful distinction.
中文:天气说明某时某地的条件,气候说明长期规律。“气候凉爽”不能确定明天的温度。
A season is a pattern, not every hour
Wet season and rainy season often overlap in ordinary travel writing. A dry spell is a shorter period with little rain; it is not necessarily a dry season. Four-season labels such as autumn do not imply the same conditions everywhere.
中文:wet season与rainy season在旅行文章中常有重叠;dry spell是较短少雨时段,不一定是整个旱季。秋季等四季名称也不表示各地条件相同。
Cool can be pleasant; chilly describes a colder feeling
Cool may be a welcome description. Chilly often suggests that someone feels cold. Freezing can be an informal exaggeration, while a scientific freezing temperature needs a substance and a scale. Avoid converting a personal feeling into a measured fact.
中文:cool可表示舒适凉爽,chilly常说明人觉得冷。freezing口语中可夸张表示极冷,科学上的凝固温度则需要说明物质和温标。感受不是测量事实。
Dew is liquid; frost is ice
The Met Office explains dew as droplets formed by condensation on a surface; frost involves ice on a cold surface. Hail falls from clouds. These words identify different phenomena, and none should be inferred merely from a misty photograph.
中文:英国气象局说明露水是表面凝结形成的水滴,霜涉及冷表面上的冰,冰雹则从云中降落。它们不是同一种现象,也不能仅凭薄雾照片判断。
A measurement needs its context
A reading needs a unit, location and time. Maximum and minimum need a stated period. Celsius and Fahrenheit use different scales; 20°C equals 68°F. A temperature range in this guide means an interval of values, rather than automatically the difference between its endpoints.
中文:读数需要单位、地点和时间,最高值与最低值需要说明时段。摄氏和华氏是不同温标,20°C等于68°F。本指南range指一段数值范围,不自动指两端相减。
Forecast wording leaves room for uncertainty
A prediction is not an observation. If a forecast gives a probability, read its definition, location and time period before interpreting the number. Do not assume a rain percentage means that it will rain for that percentage of the day.
中文:预测不是观察记录。预报给出概率时,应先读其定义、地点和时段。不要自行把降雨百分比解释成一天中同样百分比的时间会下雨。
Build a useful sentence with the Fencing Method
Begin with an observation, then add the place, time and reason that matter. Let the sentence grow around a clear meaning.
中文:先写观察,再加上重要的地点、时间与原因,让句子围绕清楚含义扩展。
- Base: The air felt cool.
- Add place: The air felt cool beside the lake.
- Add time: The air felt cool beside the lake in the morning.
- Add a response: The air felt cool beside the lake in the morning, so we paused to discuss whether everyone was comfortable with the plan.
中文:空气感觉凉爽。→ 湖边的空气感觉凉爽。→ 早晨湖边的空气感觉凉爽。→ 早晨湖边的空气感觉凉爽,所以我们停下来讨论大家是否适应这个安排。
A short Da Lat writing model
Fictional model: the scene below is invented; the station dates come from the cited Vietnam News Agency report.
Our fictional Da Lat morning began with a question about the weather. We read the daily update instead of relying only on the city’s springtime nickname. Beside the lake, the air felt cool, although one companion described it as chilly. We kept a sheltered afternoon option in case the conditions changed. Later, we discussed the railway station. The historical report dated its construction to 1932–1938 and its national historic recognition to 2001. Those dates belonged to different events. In my notebook, I separated the sourced history from our imagined outing. The paragraph became clearer when I named the place, the time and what I actually meant by each word.
中文:虚构的大叻上午从天气问题开始。我们读每日更新,而不只依赖城市的春天昵称。湖边空气感觉凉爽,一位同伴却觉得冷。我们保留了下午有遮蔽的备用安排。后来讨论火车站,历史报道记载建筑于1932至1938年建造,2001年获国家历史遗址认可;日期对应不同事件。笔记中,我把有来源的历史与想象行程分开。写清地点、时间及词义后,段落更清楚了。
Practise and check your meaning
Write 100–150 words with eight headwords, one sourced Da Lat detail and a flexible plan. Label an imagined scene as fictional. For speaking practice, one partner describes conditions and the other asks about the place, time or unit.
中文:用八个词、一项有来源的大叻细节及一个灵活安排写100至150词。想象场景应注明虚构。口语练习时,一人描述条件,另一人询问地点、时间或单位。
- Weather or climate? “It is cloudy at the lake now.” Answer: weather. “The area’s long-term patterns are being studied.” Answer: climate.
- Read a fictional display: minimum 14°C, maximum 22°C. The interval is 14–22°C; the difference is 8°C. These are invented teaching values.
- Label the claim: “Rain is expected tomorrow” is a prediction. “Rain fell here this morning” reports an observation and needs evidence.
Check one sentence before adding another. A small improvement in meaning is worth keeping.

Choose five words for the next conversation. Say what you observed, ask about what remains uncertain and keep the source for a historical claim. That is a happy, useful way to learn from a place.
中文:为下一次交流选五个词,说明观察、询问不确定之处,并保留历史说法的来源。这是愉快而实用的学习方法。
Frequently asked questions

How should I start?
Choose five words for one task: describing the air, reading a display or discussing a route. Use a short exchange, then write one clear sentence.
