Top 100 Vocabulary for Visiting and Touring Japan | Sagamihara

Three secondary students review open books and notes together in a classroom.

What connects a rocket model with a lake? In Sagamihara, both can help you ask how something works. A space-science display introduces instruments and evidence; Lake Sagami introduces stored water and changing landscapes. Choose one area at a time and let a good question guide your learning.

Sagamihara is in Kanagawa Prefecture and includes urban and mountain settings. JAXA’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science has its main campus in the city. Lake Sagami is an artificial lake formed by damming the Sagami River. The campus and the lakeside are separate destinations, so plan each route using its actual location.

Choose Your Sagamihara Reading Route

Start with the scene that makes you curious. Ten expressions and one clear question are a lovely beginning.

Why These Expressions Help You See More

A word names something; an expression helps you do something with it. These entries include descriptive phrases and practical actions. Read the meaning, connect it with a scene, then turn it into your own question or sentence. “Top 100” is an editorial learning selection, not an official frequency ranking.

JAXA’s public visitor facilities do not give access to every research building. Its visitor page asks people to stay out of areas that are not open to the public. Outdoor rocket displays include full-scale models. A model, a working launch vehicle and a spacecraft have different purposes.

Find Your Starting Point

  • If an expression is unfamiliar, read its meaning and Chinese equivalent first.
  • If you recognise it but hesitate to speak, practise a short chunk aloud.
  • If you know the words but your writing feels vague, describe one observable feature.
  • If you already feel comfortable, compare two scenes and explain the connection.

Language and sound: Chinese pinyin gives Mandarin reading aids; Japanese romanisation supports recognition of the contextual equivalent. These expressions often describe actions, rather than being ready-made polite requests. For a conversation, ask a complete question. English sound cues below are approximate British-style respellings, not IPA or substitutes for dictionary audio. Capital letters mark the stressed syllable.

English sound focus: campus: KAM-puhs; instrument: IN-struh-muhnt; reservoir: REZ-uh-vwah; hypothesis: hy-POTH-uh-sis; evidence: EV-ih-duhns.

Sagamihara in Context: Three Things to Notice

The campus visitor facilities introduce space science and exploration, with explanation panels and outdoor full-scale rocket models. Check JAXA’s current calendar for public access.

Lake Sagami’s origin is connected with damming the Sagami River. That distinction helps you explain the lake as a reservoir rather than assuming it formed in the same way as every natural lake.

Kanagawa’s visitor information describes Lake Sagami Park as a lakeside setting. A park visit, a boating service and an outdoor trail require their own current checks; one open facility does not confirm all activities.

Speak Before You Go: Sagamihara Practice

Try these full English questions. Use a pointing gesture or a written place name when helpful, listen to the answer, and ask for clarification if you need it.

  • Which campus areas are open to visitors today?
  • What does this scientific instrument measure?
  • How was Lake Sagami formed?

The eduKate Fencing Method: Build a Stronger Sentence

  • Base: Name one thing you noticed.
  • Add detail: Describe its shape, material, position or action.
  • Add meaning: Explain what the detail helps you understand.
  • Add evidence: Identify a label or official source when making a factual claim.
  • Check: Remove an impressive word if it makes the sentence less clear.

From Sagamihara Vocabulary to Better Writing

Imagined practice scene: The rocket model made size visible, but the explanation panel made its purpose clearer. I wrote down what the instrument was meant to measure. On a separate lakeside visit, another process came into view: water held behind a dam. Sagamihara gave me two settings for the same useful question—what evidence explains this?

Your turn: choose five expressions from at least two chapters. Write a short account with one observation, one question and one explanation. Keep fact, interpretation and imagination distinguishable. A simple sentence that says something exact is a strong sentence.

Ten Expressions at a Time: Check Your Learning

  • Close the page and recall five expressions from one chapter.
  • Explain each meaning in your own words.
  • Turn one expression into a complete spoken question.
  • Use another expression in an original sentence.
  • Check errors, then retrieve the same expressions tomorrow in a different scene.

Sagamihara Vocabulary FAQ

Can visitors enter every part of the JAXA campus?

No. Use the public visitor route and respect areas closed to visitors.

Are the outdoor rocket models working launch vehicles?

JAXA describes the outdoor displays as full-scale models. Describe them as models.

Is Lake Sagami natural?

It is an artificial lake created by damming the Sagami River.

Are the campus and Lake Sagami one walkable attraction?

They are separate destinations. Check their locations and transport arrangements independently.
