Places in Bukit Timah | Dairy Farm Park Connector: Hillview to Zhenghua in 2027

Entrance to Dairy Farm Nature Park in Singapore.

Did you know? You can follow a 2.1 km park connector between the Zhenghua Nature Park side of Bukit Panjang and Hillview MRT, passing a waterway, neighbourhood greenery and a small park along the way. NParks updated the Dairy Farm Park Connector information on 25 August 2026. That makes it a useful, established option for families planning walks into 2027—not an unbuilt route you must wait to use.

Here is the important distinction: the Dairy Farm Park Connector, the Wallace Trail and the Bukit Timah Park Connector are different paths with different lengths, surfaces and destinations. They can help you understand the green network, but treating their names as interchangeable leads to confusing route plans.

Quick facts: Dairy Farm Park Connector in 2026–2027

  • Published route: Zhenghua Nature Park towards Dairy Farm Road opposite Hillview MRT station.
  • Distance: approximately 2.1 km, as listed by NParks.
  • What you pass: a landscaped waterway corridor through the Dairy Farm estate, with connections to Chestnut Close Playground.
  • Accessibility: NParks identifies this connector as wheelchair friendly. Conditions on adjoining forest trails may be different.
  • Lighting: listed as 7pm–7am. That is a park-connector lighting arrangement, not a promise of lighting inside neighbouring nature parks.
  • 2026 status: an existing route, with its NParks page updated in August 2026.
  • 2027 outlook: check for any local maintenance, changed access or new green-network links; no new 2027 opening date is needed to use the connector.

Where does the route actually begin and end?

NParks gives the route’s northern end as Zhenghua Nature Park. It then moves through the Dairy Farm residential area towards Dairy Farm Road across from Hillview MRT. That is a clearer starting point than searching for an ambiguous phrase such as ‘Dairy Farm nature walk’ and being sent straight into a forest.

Because this is a linear connector, you can choose either direction. A family arriving by MRT may start from the Hillview end and turn around after a short distance, while someone living in Bukit Panjang may prefer to begin at Zhenghua. Remember that 2.1 km is the connector distance, not automatically the distance of a return journey.

Read NParks’ Dairy Farm Park Connector page for the maintained route map rather than using an old photo of a fence or an unofficial path through forest land. Access points can be affected by individual construction or maintenance notices without the entire green network closing.

What is special about the waterway walk?

A waterway running through housing estates is a piece of drainage infrastructure as well as a potential neighbourhood landscape. Green routes alongside it can provide shade, encourage everyday walking and offer views of planted banks, birds or insect life.

Stop at an appropriate place and ask a child to identify the three functions sharing the same strip of land: moving rainwater, helping people move around, and supporting some living habitat. That small observation helps explain why a park connector can be useful without being a traditional park with a central lawn.

Do not climb down into drainage channels or walk through a barricaded verge. Water levels and surface conditions can change quickly after thunderstorms. The safest route is the signed path, not the most direct-looking line on a phone map.

A convenient stop at Chestnut Close Playground

NParks describes Chestnut Close Playground as a possible rest stop, with rain gardens, play equipment and a spacious deck overlooking the waterway. It can help break a straightforward walk into shorter segments suitable for younger children.

A rain garden is more than ornamental planting. By using vegetation and designed ground conditions, a landscape feature can help manage and slow surface runoff. It is not a swimming pond and should not be treated as a shortcut across wet planting beds.

If visiting with children, set a simple goal: notice what the deck overlooks, identify one feature used by people and one feature that may help manage water, then continue the journey at a comfortable pace.

Is Zhenghua Nature Park the same as Dairy Farm Nature Park?

No. Zhenghua Nature Park is a 17.3-hectare nature park that links towards the Bukit Timah forest network. NParks describes it as a 2.5 km linear park, with entrances at Segar Road, Bangkit Road and Chestnut Avenue, and access from the Bukit Panjang LRT area.

Dairy Farm Nature Park, at 100 Dairy Farm Road, is a separate 75-hectare site with forest trails, quarry landscapes and the Wallace Education Centre. The park itself normally opens 7am–7pm.

The 2.1 km connector is a route linking the estate towards these wider nature spaces; it does not mean that the 2.5 km Zhenghua Park path or the 2.2 km Wallace Trail is included within its published distance.

If you want directions specifically for the northern park, see our Zhenghua Nature Park entrances and LRT guide. If you prefer a forest walk, use the official Dairy Farm Nature Park route map rather than joining paths by guesswork.

What about the Wallace Trail?

The Wallace Trail is an easy-to-moderate nature walk associated with Dairy Farm Nature Park, roughly 2.2 km from Hillview MRT to the Wallace Education Centre, with about an hour of one-way walking estimated by NParks.

It is designed for exploring old kampung landscapes, plants and forest ecology. That is a different experience from the developed residential-waterway character of the 2.1 km park connector. A visitor planning both should check the joining routes and allow extra time rather than adding two distances and assuming one uninterrupted signposted trail.

Our Wallace Trail 2.2 km difficulty and return-planning guide explains that route. The distinction also matters for mobility: a park connector classified as wheelchair friendly is not proof that every rustic forest path is suitable for a wheelchair.

How should cyclists and walkers share the space?

Unlike many protected nature-reserve trails, a public park connector may carry walkers, joggers and people riding bicycles. Keep to the designated path, slow down before passing others and be particularly considerate near playgrounds, ramps and narrower stretches.

When you enter a nature park, the activity rules may change. Cycling in a park connector should not be treated as permission to cycle on all adjoining nature trails. Follow local signboards and NParks guidance for each specific route.

  • Walkers: stay to one side where practical and avoid suddenly stepping across a shared path for photographs.
  • Cyclists: approach corners and other users at a speed that leaves enough room to stop.
  • Families: give younger children a clear plan for staying near adults at crossings and busy junctions.
  • Everyone: keep waterways clean, remove litter and do not feed wildlife.

What should you watch through 2027?

The main fact is that the connector already exists as of 2026. During 2027, practical changes could include signed maintenance diversions, a new estate access path or revised wayfinding, but none of these should be announced in advance without an actual NParks or agency notice.

This is also an example of a broader pattern across Bukit Timah: existing local routes may operate for years while larger neighbourhood and nature projects are still being planned. It is important to separate an open park connector from the future Bukit Timah–Rochor Green Corridor and other green links with their own completion targets.

Frequently asked questions

How long is Dairy Farm Park Connector?

NParks lists it as 2.1 km from Zhenghua Nature Park towards Dairy Farm Road, opposite Hillview MRT.

Is this the 2.2 km Wallace Trail?

No. They are separate routes. The Wallace Trail explores Dairy Farm Nature Park and the area around the Wallace Education Centre.

Is Dairy Farm Park Connector accessible?

NParks identifies the connector as wheelchair friendly. Check specific approaches and any further side trail before planning a complete accessible trip.

Does the connector open for the first time in 2027?

No. It is a listed existing route in 2026. Follow local notices for any later changes.

Can I continue all the way into protected forest without restrictions?

No. Use designated open park and trail entrances. Protected habitat, private land and works compounds may not be accessible even when they adjoin a public connector.
