Punggol Regional Library Family Lounge and Early Literacy Zone | A Visit with a Baby or Toddler

Main entrance to One Punggol community hub in Singapore.

Start on Level 1 of Punggol Regional Library for the Early Literacy Zone and Family Lounge. NLB describes the Early Literacy Zone as a place to find books for babies and young children. It identifies the Family Lounge as a place where families with young children can eat and drink. Both are inside One Punggol at 1 Punggol Drive.

Use the lounge for a short break and the reading area for books. NLB’s visitor guide also identifies nursing rooms on Levels 1 and 2. Check the library’s current hours and ask staff about room access if a particular facility is essential to your trip.

  • Reading: Early Literacy Zone, Level 1.
  • Family break: Family Lounge, Level 1.
  • Nursing rooms: NLB lists them on Levels 1 and 2.
  • Arrival: One Punggol, beside Sam Kee LRT (PW1).

Start with one book in the Early Literacy Zone

Follow the Level 1 signs and choose a book with a clear picture or repeated phrase. For a baby, naming one thing on each page may be enough. For a toddler, let them choose which picture to point to or which page to revisit.

Foyer of the One Punggol community hub
Use the One Punggol directory and library signs to find Level 1.

Keep the first reading stop brief if it is a new environment. You can finish when the child has looked at one book and is ready to move. If an older sibling wants to browse further, check the Level 2 children’s collection separately.

Use the Family Lounge for a break

NLB’s social story describes the lounge as a space where families with young children can eat and drink. Follow the signs and instructions there. The visitor guide also describes a water dispenser. Leave the area ready for the next family after using it.

If you need a nursing room or accessible toilet, check the current signs or ask staff for the nearest available option. Give yourself enough time to reach it before a scheduled programme or onward trip.

Agree where other adults will wait if the group separates. Use the level and facility name. A relative arriving from another entrance can then use the directory without having to find the entire group first.

Make the first visit easy to repeat

Try a simple sequence: arrive, read one book, then take a break if needed. Add the Toy Library and Tinker Tots only if the child still wants to play. The NLB social story can help prepare a child who likes knowing what comes next.

If a facility is busy, change the order. You can browse first and take a break later, or finish after the reading stop. Remember which entrance and floor suited the group so the next visit is easier.
