GCE private candidates can amend personal particulars in the Candidates Portal, subject to exceptions. SEAB says six fields cannot be changed by candidates after the account is created. If one of those fields contains an error, contact SEAB through its official channel.
Check which field needs changing before choosing a route. A contact detail you can edit and an error in your identification number are different cases. If the change could affect a paper, mailing or an upcoming deadline, tell SEAB which examination and date are involved.
- Sign in and identify the exact field that needs correction.
- Use the portal if the field can be edited.
- Contact SEAB for errors in a locked field.
- Check whether an issued entry proof or delivery arrangement needs separate follow-up.
Which fields require contacting SEAB?
SEAB’s GCE private-candidate FAQ lists six fields that candidates cannot amend after account creation. They are NRIC, FIN or passport number, identification type, citizenship, permanent resident status, date of birth and school.
If one of those details is wrong, use the official contact specified by SEAB. State which field is affected and which examination you registered for. Follow SEAB’s directions for verifying your identity or providing evidence. Keep identification documents within the official process.
For example, if a passport number was entered incorrectly, identify the error and contact SEAB. Ask what needs to be corrected and whether you should take any further action before reporting for the paper.

Check contact details before you need a notice
If you change an editable field, save it and check that it appears correctly in the portal. If the field is unavailable or the change does not display as expected, ask SEAB how to proceed.
Contact information matters because the examination authority may use it for instructions or delivery. For instance, the published GCE private-candidate procedure sends the science practical schedule by email, and eligible year-end certificates are mailed to the address provided to SEAB.
If a schedule or certificate is already due, ask whether the change will affect that specific communication or delivery. Updating a field and confirming where an item already in process will go are separate steps.

What if the wrong details appear on a document?
Compare the document with your current registration information and contact SEAB promptly about any discrepancy. Say whether it is an entry proof, an examination notice or a certificate, and ask which procedure applies to that document.
If the name on a newly issued certificate was printed differently from the name used at registration, use the certificate name reprint guide for the separate request route and deadline.
Keep a copy of the official response. If a corrected document is provided, check the details before using it for the examination or sending it to an institution.
