Wrong Name on a PSLE or GCE Certificate? How to Request a SEAB Reprint

Three learners review open books together at a classroom table, with stacks of textbooks, stationery and a whiteboard in the bright room.

If the name on your current-year PSLE or GCE certificate was printed incorrectly and differs from the name you used to register, contact your school or SEAB promptly. SEAB’s FAQ gives a five-working-day window from results release for submitting a reprint request.

School candidates use their school. GCE private candidates contact SEAB. A service charge applies under the published guidance, and requests are reviewed for approval. Check the official procedure and deadline as soon as you spot the discrepancy.

  • Compare the printed name with the name used for exam registration.
  • Contact the school or SEAB through the route for your candidate type.
  • Confirm what evidence, payment and submission steps apply.
  • Keep a record of the request and check how the amended certificate will be delivered.

Check what actually differs

Open the certificate and identify the exact difference. Compare it with the name used for examination registration. A missing letter or incorrect spelling may be easier to explain if you can show the registration version through the official channel.

Keep the exam level, year and results-release date with the information. Ask the school or SEAB what it needs to verify the issue. If the registered name itself is in question or the name changed after registration, explain that fact and ask which route applies.

SEAB’s published reprint FAQ describes a current-year spelling error in which the printed name differs from the registered name. A later name change or a lost document is a different situation.

Use the route for your candidate type

A school candidate should contact the school responsible for the examination entry. Identify the discrepancy and ask for the procedure, supporting evidence and exact cutoff. If a parent is helping, use the official school channel for personal documents.

A private GCE candidate should contact SEAB using its official contact channel. Provide the examination details and say that the printed name differs from the name used for registration. Follow the instructions on supporting documents and payment.

For example, a student notices that one letter in the name differs on the day results are released. They compare it with their registration details and tell the relevant contact that same day. That leaves time to find documents and complete the request within the published window.

Track the deadline and outcome

SEAB states the request must be made within five working days from results release. Ask for the precise deadline and the steps to complete by then. The FAQ says requests submitted late will not be considered.

Keep any acknowledgement and payment details. SEAB says processing time depends on the circumstances. Its FAQ says approved amended certificates are dispatched to the school for school candidates, while private GCE candidates receive them at the mailing address provided for examination registration.

If you have an application deadline while the request is pending, ask the receiving institution which documents it will accept. Tell it what is being corrected and follow its instructions for any interim submission.
