0) Definition Lock Box

0.1 Language as Control Surface (LOCK)

Language is not just “signal.”
In civilisation-scale systems, official language is a control surface: it changes what actions are politically/psychologically/legalistically possible later. Language shifts often precede “events” because they pre-commit the system to certain trajectories.

0.2 Narrative Irreversibility (LOCK)

Narrative Irreversibility is the point at which a society’s story about itself (and its constraints) becomes non-repairable under variance—because the narrative deletes off-ramps, forbids tradeoffs, or makes reversal equal to betrayal.

0.3 What this page outputs (LOCK)

This page outputs:

  • A Language → Phase → Lane Coupling Table (instrument panel)
  • A sensor: NIT (Narrative Irreversibility Threshold)
  • A Trajectory Class (Amplitude / Slow Attrition / Fast Attrition)
  • A Failure Mode Trace (short schematic chain)

1) Core Objects (CivOS-Compatible)

1.1 Entities

  • Lane: functional streams that carry civilisation capability (examples below)
  • Zoom: Z0–Z6 (person → supranational)
  • Phase: P3 (stable) → P0 (brittle/collapse)
  • Coupling: how a state change in one lane forces changes in another

1.2 Lane Registry (starter set)

LANE := { LEGIT, DIP, MIL, ECON, TECH, INFO, EDU, POP }

  • LEGIT = legitimacy / mandate / internal trust binding
  • DIP = diplomacy / external coordination / off-ramps
  • MIL = security / force posture
  • ECON = production, trade, capital flows
  • TECH = strategic tech, capability autonomy
  • INFO = media, narrative distribution, censorship/attention routing
  • EDU = generational regeneration pipeline (capability continuity)
  • POP = population load tolerance, morale, risk absorption

1.3 Coupling

C[L_i → L_j] ∈ {0..1} (qualitative or quantified)

  • 0 = decoupled
  • 1 = strongly coupled (changes propagate)

2) Instrument Panel: Language → Phase → Lane Coupling Table

How to use:
For a given corpus (speech, doctrine, policy docs, headlines), identify dominant language patterns and map them to:

  • likely Phase direction
  • lane couplings increasing/decreasing
  • expected routing
  • repair options

2.1 Table Schema (copy/paste)

ROW := { LanguagePattern, PhaseMapping, CoupledLanes, RoutingExpectation, ΔAd⁺Repair, δAd⁻Failure }

2.2 The Table (Canonical Starter Rows)

ROW-01: Inevitability / Must / Will (Hard Commitment)

  • LanguagePattern: “inevitable”, “must”, “will”, “cannot avoid”, “no choice”
  • PhaseMapping: P2→P1 (optionalities collapse; variance tolerance drops)
  • CoupledLanes: LEGIT↔MIL ↑, INFO→POP ↑, DIP
  • RoutingExpectation: legitimacy binds to posture; off-ramps shrink
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: reintroduce conditional language + bounded objectives + reversible steps
  • δAd⁻Failure: make reversal shameful → locks P1→P0 under shock

ROW-02: Red Lines without Off-Ramps (Repair Deletion)

  • LanguagePattern: “red line” stated with no negotiated exit conditions
  • PhaseMapping: P2→P1 with high risk of P0 if crossed
  • CoupledLanes: DIP degraded; MIL↔LEGIT
  • RoutingExpectation: diplomacy becomes performative; posture carries the load
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: publish explicit off-ramp topology (what de-escalation looks like)
  • δAd⁻Failure: ambiguous red line → miscalculation → amplitude shock

ROW-03: Moral Absolutism (Tradeoff Prohibition)

  • LanguagePattern: “evil”, “traitor”, “betrayal”, “sacred duty”, “no compromise”
  • PhaseMapping: P1 (repair becomes politically forbidden)
  • CoupledLanes: INFO→LEGIT ↑↑, LEGIT→MIL ↑, POP stress ↑
  • RoutingExpectation: internal dissent becomes system threat; self-correction collapses
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: allow “safe disagreement” lane; re-separate identity from policy
  • δAd⁻Failure: purge/totalisation → brittle lattice → fast attrition

ROW-04: Time-Locking / Deadline Framing (Window Compression)

  • LanguagePattern: anniversaries, “by X year”, “closing window”, “now or never”
  • PhaseMapping: P2→P1 via time-pressure (variance tolerance drops sharply)
  • CoupledLanes: LEGIT↔MIL ↑, ECON→POP stress ↑, DIP
  • RoutingExpectation: acceleration; shortcut behaviour; error-rate increases
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: replace deadlines with phased milestones + reversible gates
  • δAd⁻Failure: deadline + absolutism = NIT spike (see Section 3)

ROW-05: Cost Silence (No-Loss Narrative)

  • LanguagePattern: no mention of costs, losses, tradeoffs; only upside + certainty
  • PhaseMapping: hidden drift P2→P1 (risk externalised; buffers quietly spent)
  • CoupledLanes: INFO masking; ECON risk accumulates; POP later shock
  • RoutingExpectation: surprise failure under first big variance event
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: publish cost bands + acceptable loss envelopes + recovery plan
  • δAd⁻Failure: amplitude shock when reality contradicts story

ROW-06: Dehumanisation / Category Freezing

  • LanguagePattern: target framed as non-person category; “vermin”, “disease”, “not real”
  • PhaseMapping: P1→P0 risk (moral locks remove repair options)
  • CoupledLanes: INFO→POP mobilisation ↑, LEGIT→MIL mandate ↑↑, DIP collapses
  • RoutingExpectation: escalatory spiral; off-ramps become identity threat
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: restore human category language + allow coexistence narratives
  • δAd⁻Failure: irreversible commitment under shock → fast attrition

ROW-07: “Endure / Sacrifice / Struggle” Ramping

  • LanguagePattern: repeated “endure”, “sacrifice”, “long struggle”, “eat bitterness”
  • PhaseMapping: shift toward attrition acceptance (P2P1 posture)
  • CoupledLanes: ECON→POP load ↑, LEGIT binds to hardship story
  • RoutingExpectation: society prepared to absorb sustained losses
  • ΔAd⁺Repair: define hardship budget + explicit regeneration pipelines preserved
  • δAd⁻Failure: normalise indefinite sacrifice → slow/faster attrition collapse

3) Sensor Pack: Narrative Irreversibility Threshold (NIT)

3.1 NIT Definition (LOCK)

NIT triggers when narrative commitments remove repair optionality faster than the system can maintain buffers and legitimacy under variance.

Interpretation:

  • Low NIT: many off-ramps, reversible steps, tradeoff permission
  • High NIT: off-ramps deleted, reversals taboo, time-locked inevitability

3.2 NIT Sensors (Canonical)

Each sensor returns {0,1} or a score band.

NIT-1: Off-Ramp Deletion

  • Detect: absence of “if/then”, “unless”, “negotiated”, “conditional”, “phased”
  • Meaning: repair topology shrinking
  • Lane impact: DIP ↓, MIL↔LEGIT

NIT-2: Cost Silence

  • Detect: commitments without cost bands, loss language, recovery plans
  • Meaning: buffers being spent invisibly
  • Lane impact: ECON risk accumulates; POP later shock

NIT-3: Moral Absolutism

  • Detect: reversal framed as betrayal / identity failure
  • Meaning: self-correction politically impossible
  • Lane impact: INFO→LEGIT ↑↑; dissent becomes threat

NIT-4: Time-Locking

  • Detect: deadlines, windows, anniversaries as forcing functions
  • Meaning: variance tolerance collapses; acceleration errors rise
  • Lane impact: MIL posture pressure ↑; DIP

NIT-5: Dehumanisation Vector

  • Detect: category freezing of opponent; reduced human framing
  • Meaning: irreversible escalation channel opens
  • Lane impact: DIP collapses; MIL mandate ↑↑

3.3 NIT Threshold Rule (practical)

NIT_HIGH if 3 of 5 sensors are high and ROW-01/02/03 are present simultaneously.

  • This indicates repair optionality collapse.

4) Output Classifier: Trajectory Class (Not “Prediction”)

4.1 Trajectory Classes

  • Class A: Amplitude/KO Posture
  • Signs: hard commitments + cost silence + confidence language
  • Risk: sudden shock with underestimated recovery cost
  • Class B: Slow Attrition Posture
  • Signs: “endure/sacrifice” normalisation + long struggle framing
  • Risk: gradual pipeline thinning; regeneration loss (Civλ) rises
  • Class C: Fast Attrition Posture
  • Signs: moral absolutism + dehumanisation + time-locking + off-ramp deletion
  • Risk: rapid coupling cascade; high chance of P0 under variance

4.2 Recovery Cost Band (simple)

RecoveryCost ∈ {LOW, MED, HIGH} based on:

  • how many lanes are tightly coupled (LEGIT↔MIL and INFO→POP especially)
  • whether DIP is degraded
  • whether costs are acknowledged + regeneration pipelines protected

5) Canonical Failure Mode Trace (short, schematic)

Trace-01 (Irreversibility Spiral):
NIT rising → DIP off-ramps deleted → LEGIT binds to MIL posture → INFO mobilises POP → ECON risk externalised → first variance shock → multi-lane phase drop (P1→P0) → recovery cost explodes

(Use this trace as the reusable insert on War/Polarisation/Extremism pages.)

6) Guardrails (Scope + Safety)

This framework is for:

  • detecting phase drift
  • preserving repair optionality
  • preventing hidden fragility
  • routing stabilising adaptation (ΔAd⁺)

This framework is not for:

  • tactical/operational guidance
  • targeting groups
  • escalating conflict

7) WordPress Paste-Ready Blocks (minimal)

Block A: Definition Lock (paste)

Language is a control surface. When a civilisation hardens language (inevitability, absolutes, deadlines) it often deletes repair options before any visible event occurs. This is Phase drift in narrative space.

Block B: NIT Sensor (paste)

Narrative Irreversibility Threshold (NIT): Off-ramps deleted + costs unspoken + reversals framed as betrayal + time-locks + dehumanisation. When ≥3 of these activate together, repair optionality collapses and cascade risk rises sharply.
