Civilisation Atlas can be understood as a distributed
museum operating layer for civilisation-scale knowledge.
Museums, archives, libraries, archaeological projects,
communities and specialist disciplines preserve different
portions of the surviving record. Existing cultural-heritage
standards already make much of this material interoperable
at the object and documentation level.
Civilisation Atlas does not replace that work. It attempts
to connect the resulting objects and records to larger
civilisational systems, coordinates, dependencies,
mechanisms, theories, fractures, repairs and historical
motion.
