Run Vocabulary OS (Quickstart — eduKateSG)

This is the operational quickstart for parents and students.

Vocabulary OS is not a “study method”.
It is a loop:

exposure → connection → retrieval → sentence use → repair → repeat

To run Vocabulary OS, you don’t need long hours.

You need a stable loop + sensors.

Step 1 — Choose Your Word Source (Input Stream)

Pick ONE stable source for 2–4 weeks:

  • your school list
  • a curated eduKateSG vocabulary list
  • comprehension passages
  • thematic vocabulary sets (emotion, conflict, change, effort)

The rule:
don’t switch sources every day.
Stability beats variety at the beginning.

Step 2 — Turn On the Five Sensors

Vocabulary OS sensors are the instrument panel:

  1. Exposure

  2. Connection

  3. Retrieval

  4. Sentence Use

  5. Repair

Step 3 — Daily Runtime (10–15 minutes)

A) Exposure (3–5 min)

Read a short paragraph / passage and highlight 3 words.

B) Connection (3–5 min)

For each word:

  • simple meaning
  • one synonym
  • one example context (theme)

C) Retrieval (2–3 min)

Close the list.
Recall the 3 words from meanings.

D) Sentence Use (3–5 min)

Write 1 sentence for 2 words (not all 3).
Keep it clean and natural.

E) Repair (1–2 min)

Fix any wrong meaning or awkward usage immediately.
Wrong usage is poison if repeated.

That’s the loop.

Step 4 — Weekly Stability Test (7-day Delay)

Once a week:

  • test 10 words from the past week
  • no prompts
  • write 5 sentences using 5 of them
  • check recurrence: do old mistakes return?

If mistakes repeat, Repair Sensor is weak.

Step 5 — Use the Vocabulary Gauge (So You Don’t Guess)

Gauge rule:
If retrieval and sentence use are low, stop adding new words.
Repair first.

Step 6 — The Safety Rule (Clarity > Complexity)

Vocabulary OS preference:

a simple word used perfectly is superior to a complex word used wrongly

So your goal is not “hardest words”.

Your goal is:

  • accurate meaning
  • natural sentence use
  • low recurrence

That is how marks rise safely.

Step 7 — Connect to Education OS (So It Transfers)

When Vocabulary OS is stable, it improves:

  • comprehension slope
  • writing clarity
  • learning velocity
  • transfer ability

Canonical Statement

Run Vocabulary OS is the 10–15 minute daily protocol that executes the Vocabulary OS loop with sensors and weekly delay testing so vocabulary growth becomes stable, usable, and compounding.
