eduKateSG · RUSSIA · CITY WORDS AND SMALL DISCOVERIES

Where would you like your words to take you?

A carved window, a river bend, a theatre programme: a good vocabulary journey begins with something you want to understand. Welcome to the Russia collection. Choose a city, collect five useful expressions, and turn one small observation into a clear sentence.

Choose your route: Start with a major city · Find a city A–Z · Follow an interest · Build your Russian · Try a writing activity.

Your wider reading route: World City Vocabulary Directory → Russia → your chosen city. For the bigger country-reading collection, explore Crazy Rich World.

This hub brings together 32 published city guides, each with 100 selected English and Russian vocabulary expressions, transliteration, city examples and writing practice. The collections include names, descriptive phrases and actions. They are learning banks; “Top 100” describes their size.

Use How to Master Russian Quickly to work on Cyrillic, listening and useful phrases. Then visit How to Translate Russian to English when you want to understand how context, cases and word order affect a sentence.

The city tables use a consistent letter-based transliteration. It supports reading the spelling; it does not show word stress or every change in pronunciation. Use reliable audio when practising speech, and return to the Cyrillic expression as you become more comfortable.

SECTION 6 OF 7 · WRITE AND CHECK

Turn five expressions into a small scene

Choose one guide and five expressions that belong together. Write three sentences: tell us where you are, describe one detail, and explain why it matters. Read the scene aloud. Then replace one vague word with a more precise expression from the bank.

Next, open a related city and compare one object or setting. Keep the comparison small: two window patterns, two museum labels, or two river views. A precise observation is more useful than a long list of attractions.

For help remembering and reusing the words, visit the Vocabulary Learning Hub and The Fencing Method for Vocabulary. For broader reading and writing practice, continue into the English Learning Hub.
