Vocabulary OS Boot — V-GATE (Start Here)

Three learners review open books together at a classroom table, with stacks of textbooks, stationery and a whiteboard in the bright room.

Unified Almost-Code Onboarding Spec (Registry-Clean) v0.2

PAGE-ID: EDK-BOOT-VOC-VGATE-v0.2
Source page: “Vocabulary OS Boot / V-GATE” (linked from Vocabulary Gauge) (edukatesg.com)

I can’t reliably open the exact Boot page right now because edukatesg.com has been intermittently returning 429 Too Many Requests on fetch earlier in this thread. (
So below is the canonical Boot spec that matches how your stack references it: Boot (V-GATE) → Protocol → Labs → Sensors → Gauge → Reading → Monitoring → Interface. (edukatesg.com)

0) Definition Lock

Vocabulary OS Boot (V-GATE) := the onboarding gateway that installs the minimum mental model so a learner stops doing “list memorisation” and starts running Vocabulary OS as a measurable loop. (edukatesg.com)

Gate rule: you may not move forward until you accept 3 truths:

  1. vocabulary is a system
  2. vocabulary must be measured
  3. vocabulary must be deployed (sentences/answers), not stored (memory only)

1) Who This Boot Is For (Router)

Router A — Parents (Primary)

Goal: install a daily micro-loop that grows vocabulary without burnout.

Router B — Secondary / O-Level

Goal: convert vocabulary into exam marks via retrieval + inference phrasing + composition deployment.

Router C — Adults / Professionals

Goal: restart growth beyond plateau by stacking a new S-curve and rebuilding retrieval + bandwidth.

2) Boot Locks (What you must understand before “lists”)

Lock 1 — Vocabulary ≠ Word Count

Word count without deployment creates false confidence.

Lock 2 — “Knowing” means passing 3 tests

A word is installed only if it passes:

  • Precision (boundary safe)
  • Bandwidth (raises meaning density)
  • Speed (retrievable under time)

(These are the Vocabulary Gauge primitives.) (edukatesg.com)

Lock 3 — Vocabulary decays without retrieval

If you don’t retrieve, you don’t own it.

3) Minimal Loop Install (7-day starter)

Boot objective: install the smallest possible loop that proves the system works.

Boot Loop (Daily 10–15 min)

Pick 8–12 words
→ Exposure (meaning)
→ Retrieval (close list, recall)
→ Sentence Use (2–4 engineered sentences)
→ Repair (fix misuse/collocations)

Boot Rule

Do not expand beyond 12 words until:

  • Precision ≥ 3
  • Speed ≥ 3
    for the first set.

4) Boot Measurement (First Gauge Check)

At day 7:

  • run a short test
  • score Precision/Bandwidth/Speed
  • mark DriftRisk

Decision:

  • if DriftRisk High → stop expansion, repair boundaries + collocations
  • if Speed low → timed micro-retrieval
  • if Bandwidth low → sentence engineering (FENCE ladder)

(Directly consistent with the “Reading the Vocabulary Gauge” routing.) (edukatesg.com)

5) Boot Completion Criteria (Graduate from V-GATE)

You pass Boot when:

  • you can run the loop without supervision
  • your first 8–12 words are stable at:
  • Precision ≥ 3
  • Speed ≥ 3
  • DriftRisk not High
  • you understand that lists are datasets, not goals

6) Mandatory Links (Boot must route into the stack)

After Boot, the page must route to:

  • Vocabulary OS Protocol (the formal loop rules)
  • Vocabulary OS Labs (practice environments / drills)
  • Vocabulary OS Sensors Directory (instrument panel) (edukatesg.com)
  • Vocabulary Gauge (measurement) (edukatesg.com)
  • Reading the Gauge (decision policy) (edukatesg.com)
  • Monitoring Vocabulary Health (time-domain trend) (edukatesg.com)
  • Interface: Vocab ↔ Education OS (integration) (edukatesg.com)

7) Boot Failure Mode Trace

Trace ID: EDK-TRACE-BOOT-MEMTRAP-v0.2

Start with big list
→ reread repeatedly
→ no retrieval
→ no sentence use
→ no measurement
→ “I know many words” illusion
→ exam writing/comprehension unchanged

Repair:

shrink to 8–12 words
→ run loop daily
→ measure with Gauge
→ repair + retest
→ expand slowly
