How to read this guide / 使用说明: English sound cues are approximate, with CAPITAL letters marking the main stress. They are not IPA and do not capture every accent. Chinese gives the intended meaning in this travel context, rather than every possible dictionary meaning. The examples are practice sentences, not a record of an actual visit. “Top 100” is our teaching selection, not a measured search-volume or word-frequency ranking.
Your city name / 城市名称: Busan — 釜山 — 부산 (Busan). Keep the Korean place name on your phone so a driver or local helper can recognise your destination. English and Chinese are learning bridges; neither should be assumed to be understood everywhere.

A little Busan history makes the vocabulary come alive
Busan’s coastal identity is tied to its port, markets and routes across the water. During the Korean War, it served as a temporary capital and received people displaced by the conflict. That history gives words such as refugee, remembrance and community real weight. They describe human experiences, so use them thoughtfully.
Gamcheon Culture Village is enjoyable for its hillside paths and colourful art, but it is also a residential neighbourhood. A mural is public-facing artwork; a doorway may be someone’s home. Keeping that difference in mind turns a pleasant walk into a more considerate visit.
For background, use Busan City’s Temporary Capital Memorial Hall information and the official Visit Busan website.
What to visit and which words to take
Haeundae Beach: take beach, shore, wave, promenade and sea breeze. Write down what you actually notice: the sound of water, the shape of the coastline or people walking. Do not turn an observation into an invented weather report.
Jagalchi Market: take fishmonger, weigh, per kilogram and preparation fee. Ask whether the quoted amount covers the food alone or the full preparation. A friendly question before ordering gives everyone a clearer expectation.
Gamcheon Culture Village: take hillside, alley, stairway, mural and resident. Choose routes that fit your group’s mobility and energy. Steep streets can make a short distance feel much longer.
Gwangalli waterfront: take bridge, skyline, viewpoint and panorama. A coastline can be described beautifully with accurate nouns; you do not need to call everything amazing.
Temple or memorial visit: take permission, sanctuary and remembrance. Follow on-site directions about photography and access. Film screenings offer another city route: check the programme and subtitle language before paying.
A Busan market conversation
Traveller: “Could you weigh this fish? Is the price per kilogram, and does the total include the preparation fee?”
游客:“您能称一下这条鱼吗?这个价格是每公斤的价格吗?总价包括加工费吗?”
Traveller: “Thank you. Could you write the total before we order?”
游客:“谢谢。我们点单前,您能写下总价吗?”
This exchange uses four different checks: the item, its weight, the pricing basis and the full charge. You can stay cheerful while asking precise questions. Avoid assuming that every stall uses the same arrangement.
Turn the visit into a travel paragraph
Model paragraph: “At Jagalchi Market, a fishmonger explained the price per kilogram before weighing our fish. Later, we followed a marked alley through Gamcheon, where murals brightened the hillside. We kept our voices low near homes and stopped at a public viewpoint to look towards the harbour.”
中文参考:“在札嘎其市场,一位鱼贩先解释每公斤的价格,再为我们的鱼称重。后来,我们沿着有标示的小巷走过甘川,壁画为山坡增添了色彩。经过居民住宅时,我们放低声音,最后在一个公共观景点停下来,望向港湾。”
The paragraph moves through actions and places. Replace a detail if it did not happen on your own visit. That is how vocabulary improves accuracy as well as expression.

For longer conversations, try an English question first, then show a written Chinese or Korean translation if needed. Keep names, dates, numbers and the requested action visible. A polite greeting is useful, but clear information is what helps another person solve the problem.
What to check before you travel
Before a real Busan journey, check current opening hours, transport routes, ticket conditions, access restrictions and the weather with the official operator or attraction. This vocabulary lesson deliberately avoids fixed fares and departure times. A useful question is: “Could you confirm whether this information is current?” / “您能确认这项信息是最新的吗?”
For food, name the ingredient you need to avoid and ask staff to check it. “Not spicy” is a taste request, not a statement about allergens. For access, ask about specific features such as steps, lifts or a level entrance rather than relying on a general label.
How to learn the words before, during and after the trip
Before travelling, select five words for your first day in Busan. Say each aloud, explain it in English or Chinese, and practise one question. Five usable words can make a better start than a hundred words you only recognise on a screen.
During the visit, connect a word with an action. Use destination while showing your map, ingredient while checking a dish, and permission before taking a photograph. Afterwards, close the list and recall the words. Reopen it only to check or correct your answer.
When a word will not come back, find the weak link. Can you remember its meaning but not its sound? Practise the spoken word. Can you say it but not use it? Build a short sentence. Does it disappear a day later? Return to it on another day and retrieve it before looking. This keeps practice focused and manageable.
Use eduKate’s Fencing Method to expand one accurate sentence at a time. Start with “We visited the market.” Add place: “We visited the market in Busan.” Add purpose: “We visited the market in Busan to ask about local food.” Add a true detail from your own experience. Stop when the sentence says what you mean.
Chinese meanings are a bridge to understanding. For English development, finish the practice in English: a question, a spoken explanation or a short paragraph. Native English speakers can make the task richer by defining a word simply or comparing two nearby meanings, such as port and harbour or grilled and steamed.
Parents, teachers and adult learners: three easy practice routes
Parents: let a child choose one photograph and describe it with three accurate words. Ask “What did you notice?” before “What did you learn?” Keep the activity brief enough to preserve the pleasure of the trip.
Teachers: practise fishmonger, per kilogram and preparation fee. Ask a fishmonger whether the full price includes preparation, using per kilogram and preparation fee. Check meaning and grammar before adding detail.
中文练习: 向鱼贩询问每公斤价格与加工费,核对总价。
Adult learners: practise the conversation you expect to need first. Read it aloud twice, cover it and say it in your own words. If your partner can identify the place, request and required response, the sentence is doing useful work.
Frequently asked questions
Are these Korean words or English words for Busan?
The numbered list teaches English words and expressions, with simplified Chinese support and English pronunciation cues. The separate phrase kit adds a little Korean for everyday courtesy. Place names remain available in Hangul so you can show them locally.
Do I need to memorise all 100?
No. Learn the words for the next situation, then return for more. If you can ask about a route, confirm a booking and explain an ingredient question, you already have useful language for a travel day.
Can children use this for composition writing?
Yes. Choose a small set that fits an actual or clearly imagined scene. Build a sequence of actions and add observable details. Historical terms should be checked against a reliable source; a legend should be introduced as a legend.
Will English or Chinese work everywhere?
Language availability varies. Keep a Korean address or place name ready, use short questions and confirm important numbers in writing. Translation tools can help, especially when you review the place name and requested action before showing the message.
