Hume MRT uses Exits 1 and 2, rather than the lettered exits found at many nearby stations. SBS Transit lists Exit 1 for Upper Bukit Timah Road, The Rail Mall and Former Ford Factory; Exit 2 is listed for Hume Avenue and Lam Soon Industrial Building. Choose your destination before leaving the concourse.
For step-free station access, the operator identifies a lift between the concourse and street at Exit 1, plus a lift between the platform and concourse. It also lists a taxi stand and bus stops at Exit 1. Follow current lift signs if you are travelling with a pram, wheelchair or heavy bags.
Did you know that a station exit’s destination list is a wayfinding aid, rather than a statement that every attraction is immediately outside? Hume’s listed destinations still require you to check the final approach. The right exit is the beginning of the street journey.

1. Use the numbered exit signs
At Hume, remember the number as well as the destination. If you are meeting someone, “Exit 1, street level” is clearer than a general instruction to meet outside the station.
Use the table below for the main distinction, then check your exact address. Hume Avenue and Upper Bukit Timah Road are different approach choices, so a vague neighbourhood name is not enough.
Keep the meeting point clear of pedestrian flow and agree what to do if one person arrives first.

2. Plan a Rail Mall visit from the entrance you need
The Rail Mall’s own visitor page lists Hume as a nearby MRT option. Save the particular outlet or meeting point, then check the pedestrian route to it.
A general mall address may not be the most convenient point for a restaurant booking. Ask the outlet for its current location and confirm its opening hours before making a special journey.

3. Separate a heritage visit from transport wayfinding
The operator’s Exit 1 listing includes Former Ford Factory. Before visiting, use the attraction’s current visitor information for admission, opening days and any booking arrangements.
The station page helps you choose an exit. It should not be used as a substitute for an attraction’s own operating information or as a promise that the walk suits every visitor.
If your group includes children, decide how much time you want to spend inside the attraction before adding other stops. A focused visit is often easier to enjoy than an overloaded itinerary.

4. Use the station facilities deliberately
SBS Transit lists public toilets on the concourse near the Passenger Service Centre. Take care of practical needs before beginning an unfamiliar street route, particularly with younger children.
If you need the lift, follow the designated route rather than assuming both exits offer identical access. Check the building or attraction’s access separately from the MRT station’s facilities.
When arranging a vehicle pick-up, use an appropriate designated location. Share the exact point and confirm that the driver can reach it legally.

5. Plan the return before the outing grows
Check the current train timetable and service information if you expect to return late. The restaurant’s closing time and the train’s last departure are separate pieces of information.
For a nature outing, choose a daylight return and read the relevant park or corridor notices. Leave time for the walk back to transport.
Save the exit, destination address and return plan in one short note. That small preparation leaves more attention for the place you came to enjoy.
