CivOS Shadow Atlas Module 01 (Almost-Code, No Images)

WAR OS (Negative Lane): War as Lane-Coupling Collapse + Attrition Physics

Module ID: CivOS-ShadowAtlas-WAR
Purpose: Define war as a negative-lane routing regime where lane couplings lock, off-ramps collapse (NIT), and regeneration capacity (HRL/RePOC) is consumed faster than it can be replaced.

0) Definition Lock Box

0.1 War (CivOS definition) — LOCK

War is a coordination regime where force becomes a primary router of flows across lanes, typically after diplomacy and repair optionality collapse. War is not “an event”; it is a phase-shift in how a civilisation allocates legitimacy, resources, and risk under load.

0.2 War is not (LOCK)

War is not:

  • a single battle
  • a single cause (“X caused war”)
  • purely military
War is a multi-lane coupling state involving LEGIT, DIP, MIL, ECON, INFO, POP, TECH, EDU.

0.3 War outputs (negative outputs)

  • HRL node deletion (deaths, injuries, skill loss)
  • pipeline breakage (food/energy/health/logistics)
  • legitimacy erosion and coercion lock-in
  • generational regeneration damage (EDU + family stability collapse)
  • long-tail Civλ increase (organ/pipeline extinction)

1) Core Objects

1.1 Lane set (WAR-relevant)

LANE_WAR := { LEGIT, DIP, MIL, ECON, INFO, TECH, POP, EDU }

1.2 War posture classes (from collapse modes)

WAR_MODE := { AMPLITUDE_KO, SLOW_ATTRITION, FAST_ATTRITION }

  • AMPLITUDE_KO: expects quick decisive outcome; high surprise risk
  • SLOW_ATTRITION: accepts long sustained load
  • FAST_ATTRITION: intense escalation, repair taboo, rapid coupling cascade

2) Phase Map: War across P3→P0

P3 (stable peace band)

  • DIP steerability high
  • LEGIT not bound to coercion
  • costs are speakable; repair loops exist

P2 (drift band)

  • narrative hardening begins
  • selective coercion normalised
  • shadow mobilisation grows
  • early off-ramp deletion signals appear (NIT rising)

P1 (brittle pre-war / war-ready)

  • LEGIT↔MIL coupling locks
  • INFO→POP mobilisation dominates
  • diplomacy becomes performative / weak
  • variance tolerance collapses; miscalculation risk spikes

P0 (war regime / collapse risk)

  • force routes flows across lanes
  • regeneration capacity consumed > replaced
  • negative lanes dominate; recovery costs explode

3) Lane Coupling Map (WAR Signature)

3.1 Canonical WAR coupling signature (S-WAR)

S-WAR := (LEGIT↔MIL locked) + (INFO→POP mobilisation high) + (DIP off-ramps degraded) + (ECON→POP load transfer rising)

3.2 Observable coupling locks (practical)

  • C[LEGIT,MIL] ↑↑ : mandate becomes fused with force posture
  • C[INFO,POP] ↑↑ : mobilisation/attention control becomes critical
  • Steerability(DIP) ↓ : off-ramps shrink, “negotiation” becomes taboo
  • C[ECON,POP] ↑ : hardship routed to population; “endure” framing rises
  • C[TECH,MIL] ↑ : tech autonomy framed as security necessity
  • C[EDU,POP] ↓ : education regeneration deprioritised vs mobilisation

4) Sensor Pack (WAR)

4.1 Core sensor set (WAR-S0)

WAR_S0 := { NIT, PDS, DIP_Steerability, CouplingLocks, CostSpeakability, Derivatives }

Sensor A: NIT (Narrative Irreversibility Threshold)

Use prior NIT definition:

  • Off-ramp deletion
  • cost silence
  • moral absolutism
  • time-locking
  • dehumanisation

WAR interpretation: NIT high = repair optionality collapsing → war regime risk ↑.

Sensor B: PDS (Phase Drift Score) via coupling matrix

Use prior PDS:
PDS = 3*C'[LEGIT,MIL] + 2*C'[INFO,POP] + 1*C'[ECON,POP] - 2*Steerability(DIP)

Sensor C: DIP Steerability

Steerability(DIP) := avg(C'[DIP,LEGIT], C'[DIP,MIL], C'[DIP,POP])
Low steerability means diplomacy cannot carry load.

Sensor D: Cost Speakability (CS)

CS := presence(cost bands + loss language + recovery plan)

  • CS=0 (cost silence) → amplitude shock risk ↑
  • CS=1 (cost speakable) → better containment potential

Sensor E: Temporal Derivatives (HD upgrade)

Track acceleration (if time series exists):

  • d(NIT_score)/dt
  • d(PDS)/dt
  • d²(LanguageHardness)/dt²

Interpretation: acceleration often precedes regime shift.

5) War Mode Classifier (WAR_MODE)

5.1 Amplitude/KO posture

Trigger pattern:

  • PDS high + COST_SILENCE=1
  • TIME_LOCK not dominant
  • “quick, decisive, clean” framing
Risk: underestimated recovery cost; brittle surprise.

5.2 Slow Attrition posture

Trigger pattern:

  • ENDURE_SACRIFICE high
  • C'[ECON,POP] ≥ 2
  • repeated long-struggle framing
Risk: pipeline thinning; Civλ rises gradually; generational damage.

5.3 Fast Attrition posture

Trigger pattern:

  • NIT_HIGH=1
  • moral absolutism and/or dehumanisation present
  • C'[LEGIT,MIL] ≥ 2
Risk: escalation spiral; off-ramps deleted; P0 risk high.

6) Containment Conditions (what prevents war regime)

War risk is contained when all are maintained:

  1. Off-ramp topology exists (DIP steerability non-zero, NIT low)
  2. Costs are speakable (loss envelopes + recovery plan)
  3. Coupling not locked (LEGIT not fused to MIL)
  4. Shadow mobilisation bounded (INFO→POP not totalised)
  5. Regeneration organs protected (HRL/RePOC continuity: health, food, education, governance staffing)

7) Repair Router (ΔAd⁺) for WAR

7.1 Primary repair goal

Restore optionalities and prevent coupling locks.

RL-1: Restore DIP steering

  • publish conditional pathways + reversible gates
  • allow “negotiation” without betrayal framing
  • explicit de-escalation criteria

RL-2: Decouple LEGIT from MIL

  • separate identity/sovereignty narrative from specific force commitments
  • reduce absolutist language; reintroduce tradeoffs

RL-3: Restore Cost Speakability

  • publish cost bands (human, economic, time)
  • publish recovery pipelines; protect regeneration organs

RL-4: Block dehumanisation vectors

  • ban category-freezing metaphors
  • preserve human framing → keeps repair socially possible

RL-5: Protect Education + HRL

  • keep EDU pipeline continuity (generational stability)
  • preserve medical/food/logistics staffing continuity

8) Failure Mode Trace (WAR module)

Trace-WAR-01 (classic escalation):
Stress rises → narrative hardens → NIT↑ → DIP steerability↓ → LEGIT↔MIL locks → INFO mobilises POP → costs become unspeakable → variance shock → escalation spiral → force becomes primary router (war regime) → regeneration loss exceeds replacement (Civλ spike)

9) WordPress Paste-Ready Blocks

Block A (Definition)

War is a system regime where force becomes a primary router across lanes after off-ramps collapse. The key early-warning is not “events” but lane coupling locks: LEGIT↔MIL fusion, INFO→POP mobilisation, DIP steerability loss, and rising NIT.

Block B (Sensors)

Track: NIT (off-ramp deletion, cost silence, absolutism, time-locking, dehumanisation), coupling locks (LEGIT↔MIL, INFO→POP), DIP steerability, cost speakability, and acceleration over time.
