February 2027 school calendar for Singapore families. The Chinese New Year break, A-Level results and the first weighted assessments of the school year.
February is short, but it is busy.
There is a four-day Chinese New Year break. There are visits, late nights and reunion dinners.
And for many students, the first weighted assessments of the year arrive soon after.
This guide is useful for families who need to:
- plan around the Chinese New Year break;
- understand what weighted assessments are and how to prepare;
- check how a child is coping six weeks into the year; or
- support an older sibling through A-Level results.
At eduKateSG, we use February to check whether the start of the year is holding.

The Chinese New Year Break
Schools are closed from Saturday 6 to Tuesday 9 February. That is four days in a row.
Enjoy them.
If a weighted assessment falls soon after, one short revision session during the break is enough. Do it early in the day, before visiting.
Keeping learning light during the holidays
- read a story or article together;
- let younger children count ang bao money, practising addition and money skills;
- talk about family history and traditions, which builds vocabulary; and
- protect sleep before school resumes on Wednesday 10 February.
The First Weighted Assessments
Weighted assessments are short, school-set tests. Their marks count towards the year’s result.
With no mid-year examinations, each weighted assessment matters more than before.
How to prepare
- find out the date and the topics tested;
- revise a little each day, not everything the night before;
- redo marked class worksheets without looking at the answers; and
- practise writing full working or full sentences, as the marker needs to see the thinking.
After the assessment
The marked script is more useful than the mark.
Go through each lost mark and ask one question: was it a concept problem, a reading problem, an accuracy problem or a time problem?
Each needs a different fix.
Six Weeks In: How Is the Child Coping?
Primary 1
Tiredness is normal. Tears at the school gate should be fading. If they are not, speak with the form teacher.
Primary 3
Science is new. Watch whether the child can explain ideas in their own words, not just repeat phrases. See Primary 3 Science Tuition.
Primary 5
Primary 5 Mathematics and Science step up sharply. Problem sums become longer. Gaps from Primary 4 show quickly.
Secondary 1
Algebra is usually in full swing. Students who are unsure about negative numbers and fractions start to struggle here.
Secondary 3
New subjects, including Additional Mathematics for some students. The first A-Math topics depend heavily on algebra. See Secondary 3 Additional Mathematics Tuition.
Secondary 4
SEC year. Oral and listening components come before the September written papers. Regular reading aloud and discussion should already be part of the week.
A-Level Results
The 2026 GCE A-Level results are tentatively due between Friday 19 and Tuesday 23 February.
If an older sibling is collecting results, younger children notice how the family responds. A calm, practical response teaches them more than any lecture.
A Simple Plan for February
Before Chinese New Year
Check the assessment calendar. Note anything due in the week after the break.
During the break
Rest, celebrate and keep one short session only if needed.
After the break
Prepare for the first weighted assessments. Then review the marked scripts carefully.
How eduKateSG Helps in February
In February, our classes:
- prepare students for the topics in their first weighted assessments;
- review marked scripts with the student and classify each error; and
- repair weak foundations before Term II adds new topics.

- the latest report book;

- the school’s assessment schedule; and
- examples of questions the student finds difficult.
We are not only looking at the score.
We are looking for patterns.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the Chinese New Year break for schools in 2027?
Four days: Saturday 6 to Tuesday 9 February. Monday 8 February is a public holiday and Tuesday 9 February is a school day off-in-lieu.
Are Student Care Centres open on Tuesday 9 February?
No. MOE states that schools, including the General Office, Student Care Centres and KCare Centres, are closed that day.
What is a weighted assessment?
A short, school-set test whose marks count towards the year’s result. Schools set their own schedules.
My child did poorly in the first weighted assessment. Should we worry?
Not yet. Look at why marks were lost. One poor result with a clear cause is easy to fix. A pattern across several assessments needs more attention.
When are the 2026 A-Level results released?
They are tentatively due between Friday 19 and Tuesday 23 February 2027.

February brings family, food and a few days of rest.
It also brings the first real feedback of the year.
