September 2027 School Calendar Singapore | SEC English and Mother Tongue Papers, PSLE and September Holidays

Three students reviewing open books and worksheets together at a classroom table.

September 2027 school calendar for Singapore families. Teachers’ Day, the September holidays, the first SEC English and Mother Tongue written papers, and the PSLE.

September is examination month.

For the first time, Secondary 4 students sit their English and Mother Tongue written papers in September, a month before their other subjects. Primary 6 students usually sit their PSLE written papers in the second half of the month.

Between them sits a nine-day school holiday.

This guide is useful for families who need to:

  • use the September holidays for final revision;
  • prepare for the first SEC English and Mother Tongue papers;
  • support a Primary 6 student through the PSLE; or
  • keep younger students steady as Term IV begins.

At eduKateSG, our focus this month is calm, precise final preparation.

Teachers’ Day and the September Holidays

Term III ends on Teachers’ Day, Friday 3 September. The holidays run from Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 September.

For most students, it is a short rest before the final term.

For Primary 6 and Secondary 4 students, it is the final stretch before major papers.

A balanced holiday for exam students

  • mornings for timed practice, when the mind is fresh;
  • afternoons for reviewing errors and weak topics;
  • evenings for rest; and
  • regular sleep, every night.

The First SEC English and Mother Tongue Papers

From 2027, English and Mother Tongue written papers are held in September, about a month ahead of the other subjects. When the change was announced in Parliament in 2024, the Education Minister said it would spread out the examination load.

Mother Tongue has a single written sitting. There is no earlier mid-year paper.

Final preparation for English

  • read the question carefully and plan before writing;
  • watch the word count and the time for each section;
  • check grammar, tense and punctuation in a final read; and
  • in comprehension, answer exactly what is asked, using evidence from the text.

For a full English plan, read SEC English Language G3 2027: The Complete Secondary 4 Examination Training System.

After English and Mother Tongue

There is a gap before the other written papers in October. Use it for Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, the sciences and humanities.

The PSLE Written Papers

The week before

  • light revision only, focused on key methods and common errors;
  • pack stationery the night before each paper; and
  • keep meals and sleep regular.

On each exam day

  • arrive early;
  • read each question twice;
  • show full working in Mathematics; and
  • move on from a hard question, then return to it.

After each paper, let it go. Focus on the next one.

Term IV for Everyone Else

Term IV begins on Monday 13 September.

For Primary 3 to Primary 5 and Secondary 1 to Secondary 3, end-of-year examinations are usually held in October. Revision should start now, topic by topic.

Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils have no examinations. Reading and number work continue as usual.

Polytechnic Early Admissions Outcomes

In 2026, Polytechnic Early Admissions outcomes were released on Tuesday 8 September. Students with conditional offers still need to meet the admission criteria with their final results.

A Simple Plan for September

Days 1 to 3 of the holidays

Rest, but keep a light daily routine.

Days 4 to 9

Timed papers in the morning, careful review in the afternoon.

Term IV

For exam students: steady and calm. For other students: start end-of-year revision.

How eduKateSG Helps in September

In September, our classes:

  • focus on the errors that still repeat; and
  • start end-of-year revision plans for other levels.

Class Details

Subjects: Primary English, Mathematics and Science; Secondary English, Mathematics and Additional Mathematics

Subject levels: G1, G2 and G3 support for secondary students, according to readiness and school programme

  • alignment with school assessments and national examinations.

Limited trial lessons may occasionally be available when the 3-pax class configuration permits. The usual first step is a parent–student consultation.

What Parents Can Bring to the Consultation

Useful materials include:

  • recent test papers and weighted assessments;
  • the latest report book;
  • marked homework;
  • the school’s assessment schedule; and
  • examples of questions the student finds difficult.

We are not only looking at the score.

We are looking for patterns.
