October 2027 school calendar for Singapore families. The main SEC written papers, end-of-year examinations, PSLE marking days, Children’s Day and Deepavali.
October is the busiest examination month of the year.
Secondary 4 students sit most of their SEC written papers. Primary 3 to Primary 5 and Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students usually sit end-of-year examinations. Primary 6 students wait for results.
This guide is useful for families who need to:
- support a Secondary 4 student through the SEC written papers;
- prepare a younger student for end-of-year examinations;
- plan around PSLE marking days; or
- keep the household calm through a heavy month.
At eduKateSG, we help students arrive at each paper rested and ready.

The SEC Written Papers
Under the SEC, written papers for subjects other than English and Mother Tongue run in one common period from October to November.
Students sit each subject at G1, G2 or G3. The papers have the same format and standards as the N(T)-, N(A)- and O-Level papers respectively.
During the examination period
- follow the SEAB timetable and the school’s instructions closely;
- revise the next paper, not the last one;
- keep sleep, meals and short breaks regular; and
- on rest days between papers, do timed practice for the next subject.
For Mathematics and Additional Mathematics
- show every step clearly;
- check units, signs and accuracy; and
- leave a few minutes at the end to check the answers.
See Secondary 4 Mathematics Tuition and Secondary 4 Additional Mathematics Tuition.
End-of-Year Examinations
For Primary 3 to Primary 5 and Secondary 1 to Secondary 3, end-of-year examinations usually take place in October. Schools set their own dates and topics.
Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils have no examinations.
Revision that works
- start with the topic list from the school;
- revise one topic at a time, then mix topics;
- redo past weighted assessments without the answers; and
- use the error log from earlier in the year.
For Primary 5 and Secondary 3
These results set up next year’s examination year. They are worth taking seriously, and worth reviewing carefully afterwards.
PSLE Marking Days
Primary 1 to Primary 5 pupils do not attend school on the PSLE marking days. Schools tell parents the dates.
Plan childcare early. These days can also be used for quiet revision before end-of-year examinations.
Children’s Day and Deepavali
Children’s Day, Friday 8 October, is a school holiday for primary schools only.
Deepavali falls on Thursday 28 October. For Secondary 4 students, check the SEC timetable around the public holiday.
A Calm Examination Routine
- the same wake-up time on school and exam days;
- a proper breakfast;
- stationery checked the night before;
- no late-night cramming; and
- a short walk or break after each paper.
Routine reduces stress. Stress reduces performance.
